Only went downtown and with the exception of a couple of historic churches it was pretty run down and very touristy. The dock is in the middle of an industrial and they use small trolley to the cruise center. Shops at the cruise center were pretty reasonable.

We enjoyed this port as well and had an excursion to Quelite with Bricia as our guide and Artemio as our driver. Bricia was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited and we saw many beautiful buildings and sights.

Pleasantly surprised. We were told it was a cartel town. It is not. Maybe in the mountains, local said. But in town felt very safe and people are very friendly. Had a great excursion. Seen the town, then went to Stone Island. Little beach place with a grass porch and great food and drinks. Got to ride horses and could of used beach stuff if wanted like banana boat, kayaks, snorkeling or 4 wheelers. Lots of fun. Well worth the price. We had a personal guide just for us and he made sure everything was as perfect as possible. Great guy. They did say we paid for 4 people when we only had 2, so have to find out why that is from cruiseonly excursions. I talked to someone before we left home and she said on the phone it was fixed and only should of been one booking for 2 people . Not 4. So hopefully that can easily be fixed. I will be upset if they charged me for 4 people when we were only 2

We did the Hop on, Hop off. I will preface this with review with a disclaimer: They seem to be trying really to clean Mazatlan up. There is a lot of construction and possibilities With that said, The first stop was the beach with the cliff divers, the tour guide said we could get off, but he wouldn't suggest it. As soon as the bus stopped, there was a crush of venders blocking the bus doors. I stood at the door to get pictures of the cliff diver and there was someone not associated with the tour demanding a "tip" to let me off the bus. Needless to say, we did not get off the bus. The second stop was the historical district. This stop was the most disappointing to me. I am a history buff and REALLY wanted to go roam, but the stop is actually about 2 blocks from the actual district and it's a pretty sketchy area. The tour had people to escort you to the church and other hot spots in the area, but that really wasn't what I wanted or expected. It still didn't feel all that safe for tourists. The last stop was the Golden Zone. The military is in full force protecting this area. This is definitely the safest tourist spot. Lots of shops and places to spend your money. Here we walked freely, not hounded or harassed. The beach was very cool and clean with some breath taking views. Everything I have posted here should not reflect on the people running the tour. They were fantastic and friendly. They bent over backwards and went totally out of their way to make you as safe and comfortable as possible. It's because of them I am giving 4 Stars.

Unfortunately, A Day At The Beach & Marine Baby Turtle Encounter was canceled. The Hop on Hop off with four stops was not the best replacement. There was a lot of pressure from street vendors. At stop 4 in the Golden Zone, the street vendor would not accept no and continued to try to sell from the window of the bus eventually even boarding the bus as it was turning around. We purchased nothing.
