Review summary

We loved it. The ship was great, the staff was excellent, and the food greatly exceeded our expectations. The ship has a very active vibe, and overall, I wouldn’t say that the cruise would be optimal for folks who are looking for a relaxing cruise or who don’t like kids. But, it was a great fit for us.

Embarkation

Very efficient. Exceeded my expectations.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food exceeded our expectations, and the service was excellent. The Italian restaurant and Suess breakfast were particular highlights, but all of the food at each restaurant was really great.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The activities were awesome. We tried just about everything, including Sky Ride, the ropes course, mini golf, foosball, the track, the Tides pool and hot tubs, the beach pool, the Sky Zone trampolines, the towel animal training, and probably other stuff. Our kids (ages 8 and 5) “didn’t dislike” Club Ocean child care, but it wasn’t as captivating to them as the other stuff aboard the ship.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
We traveled together with two families with kids aged 8, 5, and 4. The kids “didn’t dislike” Club Ocean child care, but they didn’t like it nearly as much as the regular activities aboard the ship. The Suess breakfast was a huge hit. Our kids also liked towel animal demonstration, the Hasbro game show, the arcade, and sky zone.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was comfortable, and the space was efficient. The benefit of being so far back on the ship was that we rarely heard foot traffic. The downside is that most of the stuff on the ship that interested us was on the opposite end of the ship, so we spent a lot of time walking.

Ship tip

Call early to book the Suess breakfast. It sells out very fast.

Ports of call

Mazatlan, Mexico

3 out of 5
Old Town was really disappointing to us. We walked a mile or so from Old Town to the waterfront, and the waterfront was really nice.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
The port is gorgeous. There are water taxis available all over the place, and they’re WAY cheaper than it is through the cruise line or excursion brokers. We got a 45-minute tour plus a ride to our lunch location for $10/ea.

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

4 out of 5
The Long Beach waterfront area exceeded our expectations.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
This port really exceeded our expectations. The town and waterfront were vibrant, clean, and lovely.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very efficient and exceeded our expectations.

Jenny, I hadn’t seen any information about reservations, either. I asked someone at Club Ocean, and she gave me a shipboard number to call for reservations. The number was a combination of 3s and 2s - like 32323. I called early on Sunday morning and was told that they were nearly full already. (I believe they only offer the breakfast during two seatings on the Friday of the voyage.)

Sounds like a great cruise

Thanks for the helpful review. Haven't seen Dr. Suess breakfast as an option to reserve the website. Can you only reserve it on the ship? Do you call guest services to reserve?
