We loved Mazatlan! I did not purchase an excursion, instead we took a taxi to Las Flores Resort which was fantastic! Free resort with beach access, 2 pools, hot tub, bar service and a full restaurant! The beach does have locals selling (as expected), but you just have to be aware they are very persistent. The resort provided private cabanas, chairs, etc all at no charge which blew my mind. Las Flores was the most welcoming and friendly place! This was by far our highlight of the trip!

We traveled to El Cid Moro Beach Resort for the day. I had gotten email pricing for the day pass ahead of time from the hotel and luckily I did because I was quoted different prices when we got there. The hotel day pass was $48/adult and $38/kids. No matter what, the day pass pricing was a great deal for what you get. You get free access to the entire pool area. The pass includes beer & soda as well as buffet breakfast and lunch and their 2 restaurants.

We were in Mazatlán one day as a cruise port-of-call and booked this activity directly through Flavor Teller. The correspondence right from the start was fast and easy. We booked the Mercado & More tour and our guide was great. The tour included sooo much food. The information about the local food and customs was very interesting. The tour included interactions with the locals and a window into some of the day to day life in Mazatlán. The meeting point was an easy walk from the port. The group was very small so the interaction with our guide was very easy.

Did a tour with someone we met on the shore. 5.5 hrs for $30. Roberto was great. He set us up with a tour on Puerto Vallarta and it was great also.

Walk into town. About one mile. Follow the blue line on the road. Don’t take a taxi if you can walk. Retired people outside the gate in blue shirts give free advice. We walked all the way to the cliff divers. We took a cab to the Gold Zone. That was a waste of time. The Old Town and church in downtown Mazatlan is much better.

The guys went golfing (ship cruise - don't recommend it) and the gals went off the ship to look around. They were offered an excursion for $30 by one of the vendors (Trip Advisor approved) for a tour of Mazatlan. It was well worth every cent and was extremely informative and fun. The tour director was Homey and he was well versed in English and very easy going. Made it back to the shlp in plenty of time.

First cruise and first port. We took a cab to the newer part of town. While walking the beach we had many panhandlers approach us to the point of feeling very harassed. After about an hour we took a cab back to the ship because we wanted to relax. The second cab driver was great and very helpful pointing out places of interest. He stopped so we could watch the cliff divers.

Mazlatan is one of my favorite ports of calls. Its smaller in comparison to the other ports of calls and isn't as touristy. First of all, it's not tender so you dont need to be dealing with that process. The terminal is clean and everyone is friendly. Do not buy anything at the terminal or the arts and craft center because everything is priced higher than if you were to purchase at walmart at Puerto vallarta or at the giant Mexican fiesta store in cabo (depending on what you pick of course). But the backpacks were affordable and the locals friendly. The restrooms were clean and you didnt need to pay $1 to use it (looking at you cabo!) My first time around, we booked an atv tour in the countryside and had a blast. The ATV lasted 2 hours and we were fed an amazing lunch for only $40 or so a person. It was breathtakingly beautiful and because carnival splendor had been the only one docked that day we had our own private tour. There were only 4 of us and we had 2 tour guides! Please we got to meet a tiger. Second time around, I was with my mom and grandmother so just called a cab to the Golden Zone for $15. The Golden zone is very cheap and I never felt like we were ever in danger.

Hire an open taxi and negotiate your own tour. Do your homework first.

Thanks to many local volunteers, directions to town's attractions were a snap.
