Kristiansund, Norway

Kristiansund, Norway Overview

To the history buff, Kristiansund tells a fascinating story. Chartered in 1742, this Atlantic port was destroyed in 1940 by Nazi bombardment and has since been rebuilt on three islands enclosing the harbor. This ship building town has been fully rejuvenated and is home to fish and forest products industries.

We loved this seaside town - we took a tour of the islands and saw the most beautiful and colorful houses. They love their boats here! We enjoyed some waffles at one of the islands too - reminded me of my growing up time on another island thousands of miles west!

I like this port, we have been before, and they are building the port up. The exchange rate offered by the 'land train' was not the best - 100 Kroner (for us that worked out to 10 pounds sterling which i purchased before the trip) or 15 pounds sterling, 15 euros or 15 us dollars, to take you to a place that takes only 10 mins to walk. A nice street of shops etc but again not cheap.
