Don't fool yourself, the port is not "Rome" but a beachside resort down (nice enough to justify visiting itself for a day or night) about an hour by car away. It is tricky and not too clear how to get from the train station to the ship in port. The two best options are walk/free shuttle bus option or taking a taxi for about 5 Euro. If you stay in either the Navone Square or the Vatican area in Rome, you have convenient access to the inexpensive train to the Port.

Did an excursion. Allesandro was the guide. He was terrible!! Did not care to share info. Did not seem enthusiastic at all. Rose was the tour guide for the actual walking tour. She was full of knowledge but not overly great either. Didn't make learning the history fun. Noth were not organized in directing us and navigating where we went in the massive lines at Vatican/St. Peters Basilica and Collesium.

The port is not immediately in Rome so plan on taking a bus or taxi into the city. People drive like fiends, so if you haven't been here before, get ready for some interesting adventures. With so much history to choose from we went with The Vatican and The Coliseum including on-your-own time.
