Review summary

I think Celebrity might be biding its time on the Constellation until its refurbishing. The dining experiences a half-notch below the other cruise lines we've done, which was a surprise. The itinerary was good, charging passengers for the shuttles in Croatia was not. I would try Celebrity again but it wouldn't be my first choice based on this experience.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Don't fool yourself, the port is not "Rome" but a beachside resort down (nice enough to justify visiting itself for a day or night) about an hour by car away. It is tricky and not too clear how to get from the train station to the ship in port. The two best options are walk/free shuttle bus option or taking a taxi for about 5 Euro. If you stay in either the Navone Square or the Vatican area in Rome, you have convenient access to the inexpensive train to the Port.

I think an excursion to Mount Etna is a good call, its fascinating to see an active volcano and just what happens when it flows down the mountainside, as it did a few decades ago.

Cute little portside town in beautiful location. If you are fit, hiking up to the fortress above (8 Euro) is a good workout and gives you close to a dozen marvelous views of the port area and surrounding fjord.

I fear the old town has become a victim of its own popularity and G-O-T fever. Beautiful views from the historic wall walk. I can ony imagine what it would be like in the summer. Charging for the shuttle is a poor look for Celebrity.
