Eye opening experience when you see how poor the average Cuban is and their living conditions. Avoid the scammers at the front of the square, the let you take picture demand $20 each. Other than that the Cuban people were for the most part very open and friendly. I was surprised at how honest they were about the failure of communism. All the old American cars are eye opening and most are taxis, we took one to the cabaret for $10 a person and got a free tour on the way.

The port itself is very nice, but the cruise line changed substituted Santiago de Cuba for Key West; We arrived in the mid afternoon (3pm), so by the time you passed immigration and completed the "mandatory" excursion, there was no time to shop or see anything else. We were only there from 3pm to 5am. Can't do much when things close at night! Very disappointing. I wasn't even able to buy any decent souvenirs because all the store where closed when our excursion ended at 10pm! This was very poorly planned.

Havana is a dump. Socialism at it's best. Everything run down, in need of repair.

Port area was clean, good system to disembark, customs was quick considering how many people they had to clear. Did the all day Havana excursion, remarkable our guide Raphael was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of history and a view of Cuban life. Was impressed they are able to pull this all together so shortly after a hurricane went through

We had a fair shore excursion in the morning. We did not see everything that was presented in the guide. Also, the tour guide continually stated that because of the USA, the Cuban people are hurt by embargos, and that they really needed tips. The shore excursion to Café Taberna that night was a disaster. The guide led us directly to the venue and we did not see the sites indicated in the description. The musicians and dancers were excellent. The food was 2 slices of cheese. The drinks were watered down. The first was a Mojito, the second was a Rum and Cola and no substitutions were permitted. The guide left us, and we had to find our way back to the ship late at night. Definitely did not get what we paid for and was very disappointing. We spoke with the representative onboard ship, but the issue was not resolved to our satisfaction. We walked around on our own in the morning and overall felt safe, although we did meet a few Cubans that made it clear Americans were not wanted. There is a transaction fee of approximately 15% to change USA dollars. Most places do not take USA dollars, and if they do, it is at a significant discount. There is some beautiful architecture, but many crumbling buildings as well. Service is inconsistent and not what many Americans are accustomed to.
