Great opportunity to visit this formerly "forbidden" country. Was amazed and saddened to see living conditions of the people and the crumbling condition of many old, but beautiful buildings!

Did an old car tour of Havana - a real eye opener of socialism. If nothing else it made me want to kiss the ground when we got off the ship in Miami.

Do take an early morning excursion. Use the remainder of the time to visit more places. I only ate on the ship. It seems the US has caused many food and drink shortages with our embargo.

We loved this port. We had a private guide, hired ahead of time and was with him from 9 am to past midnight. It was fairly easy to go through Cuban Entry but when we came back to the ship after midnight the Security was extremely lax, mostly on the part of the Cubans who never looked at or wanted Identification and the scanner buzzer went off because of my knee replacements and no one cared and we just continued on. When we got to passport control and she took about 2 seconds to look at the passport and wave us on. The ship did check our key card.

My first ship excursion got cancelled (Hemingway House) which was the ONLY tour I wanted to do. I booked another tour through the ship and regret every minute of it. The guide was very mono-toned and seemed as if he didn't really want you to ask questions. After that one, I had already booked a private tour (via classic car) online and had the time of my life. Guide was amazing in so many levels. I feel as if I am a part of her family now. Next I booked Tropicana through the ship-I traveled solo this time, and just felt more comfortable going there this way. The show is absolutely spectacular, and would go there again. I am already planning on returning to Cuba again. (This will be trip # 3 if I do)

They canceled Santiago de Cuba because the “empress of the sea” pulled the docking area apart on a prior voyage. They brought us to Havana for 45 minutes of daylight. All shops were already closed. So no rum or cigars for me. It sucked. I was very disappointed. My tour bus had a mutiny and begged the tour to return us the the ship because we could only see our own reflections in the windows. Horrible

It was really historical. We went on the bus tour and they took us all over. Oh hey the "Cuban" expert the ship hired: Heidi I can not believe they actually pay her to sell her book after her little talk. She said at the end she would only take 5 questions, what? She said we could come up and buy her book for $20 and ask her questions. I asked her if I would be permitted to give out gum to people bc my friend back home escaped from Cuba in the 60's and said they love gum. Heidi's answer was that is not the impression we want to give. We??? Who in the heck is we? She didn't like that question. BTW there are plenty of toliets that are free and they all have seats and toilet paper! Go to the hotels. Man did Heidi steers a stray! Listen if they have a cuba talk it is very laughable.....You will learn more on the bus tour! The bus has a toilet and gives you water.

Educational via planned 6 hour excursion. Tour guide fluent in English, knowledgeable and personable. Found us a great substitute place for lunch, answered all questions neutrally and diplomatically while still being informative. Evening excursion to local cafe was fun; tourists need to be aware of the poverty in Cuba and appreciate the differences in culture.
