A: There are several restaurants about a 10-15 minute walk from the port, in the Centro Histórico area. Plus things like the umbrella street, pink street, the fort, etc. We felt completely safe walking around the area on our own.

A: I would not recommend leaving the water park, by foot, on your own. Not a particularly good neighborhood.

A: Yes we did the 27 waterfalls excursion—-I bought off trip advisor, then contacted company with cruise hours. Was amazing!!! Van picked us up and we got history of island from driver. We hiked and then slid down waterfalls and jumped cliffs. Purchased... our own photographer for the whole thing and walked away with a flash drive with all of our pictures. Was the best day and can’t wait to do it again!!!See More

A: I believe Amber Cove is only used by Carnival Corporation cruise lines (Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Costa, etc.). All other cruise lines will dock at Taino Bay.

A: I was on Norwegian and we use Amber Cove port
Answered by mrshenry01 on November 12, 2023
A: It depends on what shop you are on ,what date you dock and how many ship will be at port on that day: From what I have read is that Amber Cove is for Carnival ships and all others use Taino Bay, but if no other ship are in port using Amber Cove then... you will dock there.See More

A: We just did the full falls tour last week (December 3rd or 4th? 2023) and they have lockers for you to rent for 8 dollars. At least with our tour you were not allowed to leave anything on the bus and nobody could/ or would have wanted to take backpac... ks.See More
Answered by Bdonkey13 on December 8, 2023
A: We went a few weeks ago and they didn’t let you take anything large on your person. For people that brought backpacks, the bag stayed on the bus in the main parking lot at the base of the falls

Q: how much in advance do you recommend booking a tour? I was planning doing it once on the ship.

A: Definitely book as soon as you find something you want to do. They do sell out. If you are booking through the cruise line they normally do allow you to cancel and change them if you end up finding something else you want to do.

A: I booked through the ship’s app, but there was a few excursions already sold out
Answered by BiddySue711 on February 21, 2023
A: If you know you want to take a specific tour with the cruise, book as far as in advance as your financially can. More and more tours are selling out before you even board the ship. So waiting until onboard you may find the tour you wanted is no longe... r available. As an example, my brother waited to book a tour he wanted and when he finally decided to book it, it’s now sold out. 3 months before the cruise is due to take place.See More

Q: I’m interested in the waterfall hike because I don’t want to jump off cliffs or slide down rocks. It doesn’t say you have to do either but has anyone done this? I want to make sure before I book.. thank you for any info!

A: While you definitely don’t have to jump if you don’t want to and there are ladders to go down, the time of year we went (December) in at least two spots you HAVE to go down the slides. There’s no other way around It.. it was fun though?!
Answered by Bdonkey13 on December 8, 2023
A: We did this last February and it's amazing. You don't have to jump off the cliffs (there are stairs to walk down)

A: cont.. if you're adventurous you'll get bored at the port. We did the dune buggy through the rain forest and loved it! Enjoy!!
Answered by lovemylife3495 on August 17, 2022
A: No they don't! Book an excursion through your cruiseline, town is dirty and traffic is congested and crazy. We were just there in January. new port is nice
Answered by lovemylife3495 on August 17, 2022
A: I don't think so, but there are plenty of city tours you can book. The port is several miles from the main part of the city. I have heard the city is quite poor and some areas are not scenic and may not be the safest to be wandering around without a... guide. A guided tour would likely be safer and allow you to see more sights.See More
