Was there on New Year’s Day and everything was shut down. Then found water taxi to nearby beach. Had an enjoyable afternoon on the beach with locals. Very European. Nice change from other islands. Want to go again.

Not much to do on this island. We took a ferry boat to go across the island to one of the 3 beaches. Ride was $7/pp RT. Beach on first stop was typical tourist beach, with rentals of chairs and umbrellas but no shade as there are no palm trees. The beach on the second stop (this is where we went) was very shaded but had no rentals and was very private, barely anyone there. There were a few small restaurants to eat. Wasn't crazy about the water, felt like Jersey beach water to me.

We walked around the town and went into a gorgeous cathedral and to a large market. I read lots of reviews about the people being rude but did not find this to be true. They have beautiful mosaics on the walkways near the water and the island is so lush and green. Bathrooms cost $1 roughly - they only take euros though.

Not a big fan of Martinique. Language barrier and beach was just ok. The vendors near the ship were very friendly though and had nice hand made items.
