It rained, so the boat trip for the Caves and Mangroves excursion was a bit long, wet and turbulent. Would rather have gone into town and explored local culture than do this excursion again. It was not bad, but not that interesting either.

Lots of poverty. Pretty, unspoiled, and undeveloped for the most part. Beaches are good, but not great.

Not much at this port. Took ATV guided tour. Poor island. Guide spoke Spanish at times even though we were English speaking tourist. One stop showed their goods to sell. Lots of children here assisting us to the walk to the waterfall. Did not expect this, did give tip to the children, however, they were not happy what we gave. We did not know if we would encounter more children and begging at another stop, we did not want to run out of cash. We would avoid a cruise in the future with this port.

What a beautiful unspoiled place! But, we were told the ships were going to once again stop going to Samana due to tendaring. They want to build a cruise dock with stores, etc and the DR does not want it since it would spoil the natural beauty of the island. Guess the cruiselines are trying to force them into it by not giving them the tourism that they rely on. How sad for all.

its is such a poverty stricken island that all the natives harp on you for sale in return money, it takes the fun out of it and as you walk you feel horrible for all the poor people and children whom wander the streets selling shells.

Did not stay on shore long here as it was very hot and many children selling whatever they had.

We loved our tour of the caves and mangrove forest, but it started too late and we ended up with virtually no beach time. Don't pay for the version of this tour that includes beach time.
