Review summary

My family and I went on the 'Sun' at Spring Break last year and had a wonderful experience with excellent overall service, food, and entertainment. By contrast, this recent Spring Break cruise on the 'Spirit' was very disappointing. The ship was attractive enough, but the service crew appeared under-motivated and lacking in organization. This was especially evident at the main restaurant, Windows. The menu selection appeared limited compared with our experience on the 'Sun' as well. It was very difficult to make reservations at specialty restaurants in prime time (between 6:30PM and 8:30PM) for any size party . The entertainment was especially poor and amateurish in comparison with the professionalism on the 'Sun'. In general, it was hard to believe that the two ships are part of the same line.

Ports of call

Samana, Dominican Republic

Lots of poverty. Pretty, unspoiled, and undeveloped for the most part. Beaches are good, but not great.
Don't Miss: Playa Rincon, but difficult to get to.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Pretty harbor at Road Town. A large selection of beaches to choose from, though the roads are somewhat difficult to negotiate. Friendly, curtious people.
Don't Miss: Smuggler's Cove, but difficult to get to from Road Town.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Deteriorated significantly since last visit in 1988. Granted we did not anchor at Charlotte Amalie. Shopping remains fairly competitive for selected items, including liquor and some jewelry.
Don't Miss: Megan's Bay
