Review summary

The Norwegian Spirit is a very clean ship. The staff are unbelieveably nice and there for you. We had 2 adults, 2 children (ages 10 & 2) in an inside cabin. It actually worked out ok and we would do it again only because of the price. The only pro was the price. The cons were that there is no window and it's very very small. The rooms do not have a clock so bring your own. There is free room service 24 hours a day which was great. We had them come every morning to wake us up (they were always earlier than the time requested).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Freestyle cruising is awesome. You don't have to sit with strangers. You sit with your party and that's it. You can go any time you want to. There are some specialty restaurants that are reservations only and you can't wear shorts to dinner, that is there only dress attire.

Entertainment

There were so many different things to do. A show every night and games as well. The shows were pretty good. Some were ok and some were great. A nice mix of comedians, singing, dancing, acrobatics, etc.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Charlie's Child Care was awesome. They are open 9-12, 2-5 and 7-10. You can sign up for late night hours from 10 p.m. - 1 a.m. for an additional charge. You can also sign up your children all day during Ports of Call for an additional charge if that suits your needs. Our son who is 2 1/2 usually has separation issues in a new setting but after he went in (not crying!) he had a great time. They have special activities scheduled through out the week.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff are so friendly and willing to help. They all go above and beyond the call of duty. We didn't experience one bad thing.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Spirit is not the biggest ship but it is big. You can definitely feel it rock if the waves are over 6 feet. The layout of the ship is ok - it takes a day or two to get used to the layout. Sometimes you can only enter by the forward elevator and only through certain floors but you get used to it. We did so much walking on the ship that I actually lost 6 lbs!

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
As I stated earlier, we stayed in an inside cabin wtih 4 people. Luckily there were 2 children. I think 4 adults would be very difficult. The decor is dated but the beds were very comfortable. No clocks or alarms. There is a hair dryer but it's not your standard american hairdryer. However, don't bring your own because you'll blow out the power.

Ports of call

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We did not book any shore excursions. We did go downtown and go shopping. I recommend staying near the dock at Havensight - it's a much nicer shopping experience and the prices are the same. We did not go to the beach because of the weather.

Samana, Dominican Republic

I highly recommend booking a shore excursion for Samana. Do not stay near the port. It is quite scary. We could hardly breathe because of all of the motorscooters they ride. There were people shoving things in our faces every second to try and sell us something. It just didn't feel safe, we went back on the boat.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

5 out of 5
We did not book a shore excursion. We walked around the village. It is such a beautiful place and everyone is so nice. We did not go to the beach because of the weather.

Pros: Freestyle - no set times for dinner

Cons: No diaper changing stations anywhere on the ship (not even in the child care center).

Recommends Norwegian Spirit? Yes!
