This port was pretty good. You do have to take a cab to get to any beach. Our cab drivers were very nice and told us different things about the island. We went to teino beach as suggested by our cab driver. It was okay. The water wasn't as clear as Junkanoo in Nassau. Nassau is in a cove so the water is calmer. But we made the most of it and had a great time! There are a lot of people here that are walking the beach trying to sells things. It was slightly aggravating after having been asked 20+ times already. But when you step back and realize that this is all they have, you have to have sympathy for them. This is just how they are trying to feed their families and live. We bought some cog shells and some little necklaces for the kids. They were very grateful and the kids enjoyed their necklaces.

Met a taxi driver at the port and paid for a private tour ~ he was a retired police officer and showed us a beautiful side of Freeport such as millionaire row.

I know that there are a large number of people who do not get off the boat or out of the tourist area. I want to encourage you to use a local tour guide. We used an amazing lady named Anthea Lewis. She runs her own tour company: At Your Pace Tours. She will give you a real feel for the culture and is a wealth of knowledge. We had an amazing time and learned a different side of Freeport. She took us to a great local place to eat, showed us sites not on your average tour and helped us experience the way of life. Please check her out, it is well worth the time. She is AMAZING!!!

We puechased a day pass at lighthouse point at Lucaya Resort. It was beautiful . The beach was great the bottom of the ocean was smooth sand and super clear water. Nice gentle waves. Restroom was very close and snack bar area was close as well. Money well spent here. Dont buy this pass online , just buy it at the resort . Its cheaper.

Book the beach leisure for $19.95....TOTALLY WORTH IT! You get free transportation to and from and access to the private beach with chairs and umbrellas. They also have some things for sale, along with food and drinks (they will even wait on you so you don’t have to move). I wish this day was actually longer, because this excursion made it amazing!

Freeport is sadly rundown. I was shocked. We took a private tour of the island and there was nothing left that said "paradise" about it. Nassau, of course, is still wonderful to visit. Whether you take an excursion or walk into town, you get the full caribbean vibe.
