Review summary

Over all we had an amazing time and will definitely be doing it again! We would go on the Sunshine again in a heart beat. There was just so much to do!

Embarkation

We left out of Charelston. The process was a little confusing. Probably in part that it was our first cruise and we just didn't know what to expect. All in all though not too bad.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was great! I'm not complaining, I didn't have to cook for 5 days! Haha We had great dinner experiences, had cookies at 1am, and had cereal delivered to our room one day.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There was an endless choice of activities to do. We didn't even do everything we wanted to do. We will just have to go again! The kids played basketball, enjoyed the sky course, we played put put together, we swam, we danced, we saw shows, and spent an amazing week just hanging out together.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We had a great time at the shows. Very high energy and fun!

Children's Programs

My younger kids loved camp! They didn't get to spend a lot of time in there because we wanted to spend time with them. But I told them next time I would let them go a little more. What time they did spend though they loved! They took very good care of them! The teen club is a different story. My daughter is 15 so she was part of club o2. A club for 15-17 year olds. Not completely displeased with it. They plan fun activities and have a cool place to hang out. My problem was that some of the activities are unsupervised. I have read many complaints in reviews about children/teens running around crazy. This unfortunately is part of that problem. For example: they scheduled for them to play "man hunt" (basically a game of hide and seek in the dark) from 11:45pm until 1am as an unsupervised activity. I can't understand how carnival is okay with this. We ended up in a big discussion with our daughter about why she wouldn't be running around the ship in the middle of the night without adult supervision. I didn't feel that it was safe.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had excellent service most of the time. These people work so hard and don't see their families for months at a time. So there has to be some kind of empathy for the if they aren't always on their A game.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was great! My only negative would be having to walk through the smokey casino with my kids to get to dinner. I realize I caould have went down and walked over and went back up. But that seems a little ridiculous. We just sucked it up and walked through quickly. And all in all wasn't terrible.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had connecting cabins and they were both great. There was plenty of storage space and plenty of room for our family of 8!

Ship tip

Just have fun! The abundance of activities can be overwhelming. Just take it one day at a time and make the most of each day!

Ports of call

Charleston, South Carolina

We didn't do much here outside of riding around. But what we did see was beautiful!

Nassau, Bahamas

We had a great time in this port! The water was amazing! We visited the Queens staircase and went to Junkanoo beach.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

This port was pretty good. You do have to take a cab to get to any beach. Our cab drivers were very nice and told us different things about the island. We went to teino beach as suggested by our cab driver. It was okay. The water wasn't as clear as Junkanoo in Nassau. Nassau is in a cove so the water is calmer. But we made the most of it and had a great time! There are a lot of people here that are walking the beach trying to sells things. It was slightly aggravating after having been asked 20+ times already. But when you step back and realize that this is all they have, you have to have sympathy for them. This is just how they are trying to feed their families and live. We bought some cog shells and some little necklaces for the kids. They were very grateful and the kids enjoyed their necklaces.

Disembarkation

It was smooth and easy. We enjoyed breakfast while we waited.
