We did the 3-hr White Pass & Yukon Route excursion through the ship. We walked down the gangway and climbed aboard the train. Well done, no walking into town to catch it. We wandered the town afterward and at lunch at a taco truck. We visited the bar the locals go to across from the truck. Happy Endings bar.

We did the small bus tour vs. the railroad and so glad we did. We were able to stop for things/views/animals the train can’t, it is less expensive and less time. And lunch was amazing! We went further up than the train too. A long day, but we saw so much!

We booked the luxury car train for the White Pass Scenic Railway. This was SUPERB! If you can afford it, I highly recommend this upgraded experience with unlimited snacks, beers, wines, and champagne for the 2.5 hour train ride. Only 14 people in the car for the experience are allowed. The views are breathtaking!

Take advantage of everything the National Park Service has to offer, free films, walking tours, displays. Skagway is a neat little town. There's a saloon and shopping also.

The White Pass Train was absolutely amazing. My tip is to board on the last train at so that you can enjoy the views out the back on the way up. You are not allowed to move between cars when the train is in motion. At the top the engine moves to the back (now the front) and the train goes back down. If you are outside near the engine it can smell like diesel so keep that in mind. Also, you can’t hear the commentary outside. I stayed outside on the way up then inside to listen on the way down. The town is cute but small and doesn’t take long to explore. The Moore house is interesting for those who want to know more about the history of the town. On the walk back to the railroad docks, there is a trail you can take that crosses some salmon rivers.

The White Pass train ride was amazing, tour was great. Learned a lot of history, did some hiking throughout the town and back to the ship. I watched two eagles from the top deck.
