Skagway was my favorite port on this itinerary. We rented Jeeps at the popcorn place and drove up into Yukon and Carcross. Just gorgeous, even in the pouring rain! Stopped at the Red Onion Saloon on our way back to the ship. Really great day! Can’t wait to go back someday!
Take the White Pass Railway up into the mountains. Breathtaking scenery.

White Pass Railway is a must!!! Incredible views. We rode the train up just over the Canadian border and our shuttle driver picked us up there and drove us back down. They stop and let you take pics on the way down. This is a good one all ages would enjoy.
Besides Victoria, this was my favorite stop. I understand that the train can be cool but I think we got a much better value by renting a jeep from DIY rentals and driving into the Yukon. We had the whole day, could stop whenever we wanted, could go farther and it was less than half of what the train would have cost us. Saw a couple of black bears at Emerald Lake and crossed paths with a momma and baby moose. Skagway has a beautiful waterfront area and the locals were very friendly.
Such a cute little town! We rented a car and drove the Yukon highway! Let me tell you this was the most BEAUTIFUL scenery I have ever seen in my life. I mean it was legitimately breathtaking.. We drove into Canada and stop at some sand dunes and a little lake called Emerald Lake. It was positively incredible!
If I could give this port 10 stars, I would!! By far one of my most favorite places I’ve ever been!! So much history in such a small little town!! We did the White Pass Summit train ride excursion (about 3 1/2 hours) and it was AMAZING!!! We were in port for 11 hours so we had plenty of time to explore the town once we finished our excursion and we took advantage of every single minute!!
The Main Street in Skagway was nice but all the shops had the same things. There is a neat popcorn and fudge shop. I'd recommend paying $5 for an all day pass on he shuttles. It doesn't look for to downtown from the ship but it's farther than you think. We did the white pass to the summit excursion. It's a 3 hour excursion with some breathtaking views. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a low energy tour. Also for those of you with mobility issues there is a car with a lift that makes it very easy to get on.
I've done 16 cruises, and my favorite excursion EVER was in Skagway. We did the Musher's Camp and Sled Dog Experience through Carnival. We rode a Unimog (painted green and named "Kermit the Mog!), we went up the mountain to the musher's camp. It was September so it wasn't cold enough for snow, so we got to ride in one of the training sleds ( still pulled by the dogs, but on wheels). After returning to the camp for complimentary hot chocolate, we listened to a talk by a guy who had competed in the Ididerod. He told us some fascinating stories, then we got to visit with the mush dogs. They let me hold a five day old puppy! I was in love!! I would do this excursion again in a heartbeat.
We did the Dog Sledding and Helicopter tour was worth it. The dogs loved all the attention they got. The views are priceless. It was amazing to learn the dogs get to ride in the helicopters since it’s the only way to the top of the glacier.
