We had a great time in Skagway. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, high 60's! When we got off the ship there were lines as far as you could see for excursions. We didn't have an early excursion so my husband and I made the walk into town. It took about 15 minutes. When we got into town it was completely deserted. None of the stores were even open yet. I was able to get great pictures of the town and stores without thousands of people lining the streets. We passed by a little store that was just opening called The Klondike Doughboy. The owner and his wife were so sweet and we chatted with them about Skagway for awhile. We tried their Alaskan Fry Bread, it's dough that is pressed thin, fried, and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. It was kind of like a churro, my husband and I both loved it! We debated booking the whitepass railway excursion but I found a bus tour that was half the time (1.5 hours) and would actually stop at the attractions for you to take pictures. The bus was so comfy and had huge picture windows. I can't remember the exact name of the tour, it was something like "Into The Yukon". The tour guide was awesome! He took our pictures at all the stops (you go to the Welcome to Alaska sign) and was so funny and informative. I believe his name was Mark. The cost of this excursion was $39.95 per person, such an amazing value. You see the whitepass train on your way up into the mountains, so it's a very similar view for a fraction of the cost. What sold me on the bus tour versus the train was being able to stop, get out and take pictures on the bus tour. We had lunch at the Skagway Brewery and oh my goodness! Their fried halibut and fries were to die for! They have a smart bus that goes through town, it's $2 per person per trip or $5 per person for an all day pass. There were a lot of fun shops to browse in and we did a lot of shopping.

We did the train to white horse pass. Boarding was easy and quick. The ride was great and the scenery was amazing. The crew on the train were wonderful. We had plenty of time to visit the town and shop.

We didn't do an excursion in Skagway, but opted to support the local economy and shopped all day.

Train ride was outstanding. Should definitely book if in this port. Weather 40 degrees and below and winds at 40 mph which is pretty standard for this port. The train was comfortable and the views and ride up the mountain breathtaking .

We felt as though we had gone back in time and loved our time here. We did a ship shore excursion White Pass Rail and Highlights of Skagway tour on a coach up to White Pass and then boarded a train the White Pass Rail back to Skagway. In Skagway we came across this coffee shop between 5th and 6th on Broadway called the BBQ Shack, where we enjoyed this amazing cinnamon bun and a coffee.
