Unfortunately, it rained the day we were at Ketchikan so it wasn't nearly as much fun as it could have been had the sun been shining. Consequently, we didn't see the salmon on the salmon ladder or any bears or wildlife!

Really cute town, but we had a tour to catch and didn't see much. We did a kayaking trip starting at Orca's Cove. We didn't see any whales, but did see starfish and jumping salmon, and a lot of great scenery. It did require paddling and a short boat ride to the kayaks.

Went on a duck tour through the cruise line then did a tour around town in a taxi. Herring cove was beautiful.

Expect rain. Follow the creek beyond the waterfall and past the fishermen to the spawning ground by a side street (Freeman?).

The stores further away from the port are cheaper. We saw the totem poles at Saxman, closer than the other park and more than adequit.

Visit the historic "redlight" district and I recommend the salmon fishing here.

Misty Fjords trip was excellent. Beautiful scenery. Ketchikan has become overbuilt with jewelry stores and generic gift shops. Look for the locally owned shops farther from the ship to get a better feel for the town.
