Q: Do they typically add more shows and tours as the day gets closer? Our port arrival is 11a and the last shows and tours are 12p-1p. We wanted to do both the Lumberjack show and Duck tour, but not possible with no afternoon scheduled. Sound like we will have to choose?

A: I don’t see you cruise listed, and have no idea how long you are in port. You can walk to the lumberjack show from the port, and buy tickets …if they are available …, assuming you are docking in town. I believe the same is for the duck tour.

A: Most port times on an Alaskan cruise are sceduled around tide change. Some ports have very limited times ,others long. They limit excursions accordingly. Once they are sold out there are no more.

A: no they typically will not add any more excursions from the ship. once they sell out they sell out

A: No, they don't. It does slow down for you to see it. Once you get on the Duck boat, you're on till the tour is over.

A: when we did it, it never stopped anywhere, but it has been a few years ago.
Answered by water227 on July 4, 2023
A: luckily, the courts just decided today that the salmon season would reopen on July 1st.
Answered by crusin4gramma on June 21, 2023
A: there were a bunch trying to do the fish ladder in mid August (and a bunch of seals guarding the streams outflow). Do note that hundreds of expired salmon lined the banks at that time as well.

A: It was pretty much over when we took an early October cruise in 2021.
Answered by VAcruisenut on June 21, 2023
A: It really depends on which specific salmon when their at peak. However, it ranges from June, July, and August as the peak months. Salmon fishing in Ketchikan is available June 1 through September.
Answered by esrescuer on June 21, 2023
A: We were there 1st week in September and it was crazy! I would expect that late August would be as well. Walk up along the river and be entertained.

A: I think since all the ports in Alaska rely on tourism most of the regular tourist stuff will be open & excursion stuff too. We were there on a weekday & the local stores that deal with residents closed at normal times.
Answered by esrescuer on February 17, 2023
A: Yes. Our cruise was in Ketchikan on a Sunday in May 2022.
Answered by Moyajoya on February 18, 2023
A: Right downtown. You can see the whole town from the observation deck of your ship.

A: Some ships do have to port a good ways away. I don't believe you will have to worry about that on Celebrity.

A: I do not understand the question.

A: My first ever cruise was on Seabourn Sojourn , and the ship docked at the main pier at downtown Ketchikan. I’ve booked a second Transpacific cruise (September 2023 ) on SilverSeas Muse also stopping at Ketchikan. Apparently higher end luxury cruise... lines have priority ?See More

Q: Is this a port that requires an excursion? Or can you get off the ship and walk around the port itself ?

A: Ketchikan offers both depending on the experience you desire. Local shops and restaurants are plentiful with Creek Street providing both in an atmosphere a visitor would expect in Alaska. The town is also a great place to learn of native Alaskan c... ulture at the Totem Heritage Center, catch the Lumberjack Show, or see a bald eagle at the wildlife sanctuary. All sites are a short walking distance from the ship.See More
Answered by VAcruisenut on June 27, 2022
A: You can walk around. Check the internet for a walking tour map. Creek Street is a destination.Bruce Locksmythe_

A: There is plenty to do in port. Shopping restaurants. Great people.
Answered by mary0909 on June 27, 2022
A: It's fun just to walk around, lots to look at and if you really want to walk there is a lot to see beyond the immediate port area. We walked around on our own.

Q: Sailing on Holland America on 8 September, in Zuiderdam. Had email last night to say our lumberjack show booking has been changed from 11:00 to 15:00. Nit sure why, we are also booked to do Neets Bay bear watch by float plane that afternoon as well. No time confirmation, time keeps changing gif this too on the online excursion booklet. Has anyone else had this happen. Unsure what to do, cannot call Holland America as I’m in the Uk. Many thanks.

A: why can't you call HA?? If you don't want to drop a dime, then ask them online!
Answered by crusin4gramma on May 12, 2022
A: I'm still confused, you don't have to be in the US to call them.
Answered by crusin4gramma on May 12, 2022
A: since you're not going until September it may change several more times before then. Alaska seems to be constantly changing things right now.
Answered by crusin4gramma on May 12, 2022
A: Yes, I could call them, slightly awkward with time difference and obviously the cost if I’m on hold. I have emailed them. If I get no response, I will look for another way to contact them
