This port was nice. Lots of shopping and excursion options. The negative to this port is that you had to take a shuttle bus ride to get there but the positive it is free.

the length of the time is just right, enough to see some local life and history as well as do some shopping. It is a good place to shop for winter coat if you did not bring one as in you will not have much time to do shopping in Juneau nor skagway. It is very windy and could at the glaciers.

It was very rainy. We had a great excursion guide but the excursion pictured 4-wheelers but when we got there it was golf carts. The adventure thru the forest was minimal. Since it was raining and the golf carts were covered we didn't mind, but had it been nice I would have. I may have chosen to snorkel since the wet suits would have kept me dry anyways

While out and about, wonder Into Dolly's House in Creek Street. It's a self guided tour, less than 30 minutes, with some fun facts and funny history. Sure there's a fee, but while in Ketchikan, why not check out the history of this interesting little house and it's entrepreneurial owner.

I was disappointed in Ketchikan. We did do an "all in one" tour through Viator for this. It was clear that the guide had lived there a long time and knew a lot about the city, but I found him to be boastful. We spent a lot of time learning about salmon and not a lot of time learning about the Totems. We did stop several times for photos, but the beach where it was said that we could see seals and whales was about a 10 minute stop. We only drove past Creek Street, and disappointingly, never stopped. The main shopping hub in Ketchikan is Tongas trading, which I found to be somewhat touristy and cheesy. You had to look pretty hard to find something that was made in Alaska and not China. Even the things that I looked for and thought were made in Alaska, I got home and realized that they were just designed in Alaska, but made in China.
