Who has done a cruise over a holiday?

Who here has cruised over a holiday, and how did you like it? I've seen a lot of people say they'd be willing to cruise over Thanksgiving or New Year's but not over Christmas because they want to be home with their families. I understand that and would probably tend to agree. Also, flights are generally so much more expensive if you don't already live near the port which can discourage holiday cruises. But I'm curious what everyone's experiences here are? I've never done it. The closest I've come is sailing Carnival at the beginning of December. It was fun because there were Christmas trees and decorations up all around the ship.

And you like to relax more at what time of the year, it's just that I have a vacation at work 2 times a year. And I can rest both in summer and in winter. Personally, I love both the sea and the mountains and a lot of snow, and so whenever there is an opportunity I try to travel but usually there are problems with the selection of hotels for recreation. I do not want to look for a place to spend the night in the city because problems may occur and everything will be closed. Therefore, I am looking for hotels in advance via the Internet on the service https://www.onholidays.com.au , because it is much more convenient and reliable. Recently I was in Italy in the mountains, such a beautiful view I can't even put into words.

Three times: once over Thanksgiving and twice over Christmas. Loved all 3, except for flight and a few other issues on the Thanksgiving one.

We took our family on a Christmas cruise in 2008 to the Caribbean out of Miami. The events and decorations on the ship were nice but it just didn't feel like Christmas. The first surprise was, our kids (13 & 18) were two of a handful of of other teens on the ship which meant they had little to do but argue with each other, thankfully we had gotten a separate room for them. Now before you think the trip was terrible or that we didn't enjoy ourselves, how could we not enjoy? We left a foot of snow behind for sunny skies, the ocean and Caribbean islands.

The highlight of the trip was Christmas day, we were in Saint Martin on the Dutch side. We spent the day on the beach, doing nothing. That was a first for us. A normal port of call for us is filled with lines, busses, crowds and very little time to do something we might never be able to do again. To sit on the beach and just relax was heavenly and perfect. However it wasn't like we had a choice, there were no side tours available, most stores were closed and the beach was crowded, but the Christmas Spirit was in abundance regardless, it was peaceful and quiet despite the crowds of people.

We have never gone again for Christmas and I don't know that we would, it just didn't work for us. One fun thing that happened was during debarkation, the lines for Customs were non existent for US citizens, we breezed right thru the checkpoint while there were huge lines for everyone else.

I don't have a cruise experience. but now am planning for it.

Only Thanksgiving holiday (a few times).

A number years ago we were on a Honduras beach on Christmas Day. Had kids with me. Santa visited the ship and gave all the kids presents. However, my son who was young at the time- when asked if he had a good time. he replied "Home is where the heart is". No more holiday cruises after that. They wanted the full feel of Christmas with extended family and all. The kids are grown now and I still feel a bit just a bit selfish when I look at Christmas cruises, then I tell myself ---well my birthday is December 13th so technically.....I have a cruise booked leaving 12/12/20. Yummy

We just got back from Christmas cruise 2019 on the he Carnival Pride. We were told by others that Christmas cruises were amazing, I will have to disagree. They did very little decoration, they did the Christmas party the Friday after Christmas, to us it wasn’t anything special about it. This was our third time on the Pride always had a great time in the pass even when the weather wasn’t so good. We felt they did less on the Xmas cruise then the others. The only hot meal we had was at David’s and the pizza.

We did a round trip from New York to the Caribbean over this past Thanksgiving, it was great. Of course one of the choices for dinner on Thanksgiving was turkey with the works. Three days at sea before the first port stop and each day more Christmas decorations went up. Then on that first port day the large Christmas tree went up in the atrium. The ship looked great.
