Post Drydock Not Impressed

Over all A great week as always, punctuated by some highs including dinner at Tuscan grille, Drinks at the martini bar and several good shows. Bermuda is pretty as always. However there were some changes made to the ship during the dry dock that are not to our liking. Menu in the dining Room and poolside entertainment must be upgraded.

Cruise tips

Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz, Galapagos

Darwin research station lots of tortoises, stuffed lonesome George. We took the tree planting option, a great choice. Quick hassle free tree planting followed by a fantastic local lunch with great local entertainment. Bus ride back to town and again a chance to wander around on our own. Only full day excursion.

Sullivan Bay, Santiago, Galapagos

AM excursion, We chose the long walk about 2.5 miles along a lava field. Great vistas. Hot uneven ground. more of a geologic experience no animals.

Caleta Tagus, Isabela, Galapagos

PM excursion. My wife took a Panga tour only, I took a combination Panga tour and walk/climb to Darwins Lake. Dry landing Panga is pulled up to a rocky outcropping and passenger exits onto the rocks. Again lots of wildlife, drivers get the Pangas in real close to the coast and rocks for viewing. Climb was a little arduous as it had just rained and some of the rocks were slippery, but worth it for the view.

Elizabeth Bay, Galapagos

AM excursion, few hour Panga ride into the bay with mangroves. Lots of distinctive animals including Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants.

Puerto Baquerizo, San Cristobal, Galapagos

Long fast walk and climb for nice view of bay and town. Back to town stop at interpretation center which was a little lame. Walked around town one of the few times we were allowed to be on our own. Sea lions all around the town

Punta Pitt, San Cristobal, Galapagos

ride to beach for hanging out and swim, some sea lion encounters on the beach. Then a panga tour to a rocky outcropping where blue footed, red footed and masked boobies only place where all 3 types visible at same place.

Rabida, Galapagos

Pm excursion which included a panga ride and a stop at the beach. Lots of wildlife along rocks, which were pointed out by naturalist. Of course we saw many of the famed blue footed boobies here. We encountered a giant pod of dolphins and the tour was ad libed to ride with them, exhilirating. Wet landing at red sand beach for swimming.

Puerto Egas, San Salvador, Galapagos

AM excursion choice of long or short beach walk. We chose long (I think about two miles) along the beach. Panga ride over beach/wet landing. Panga is beached in the surf, passengers swing over the side and walk up onto the beach. As soon as all are off lets vominos no waiting around. Lots of wildlife iguanas, birds crabs sea lions. Flamingos were a hit. Nice snorkel off the beach before ride back to ship.

Daphne Island, Galapagos

Again a limited rating. We did not stop just a sail by. Red rocky with lots of birds. As this was on the first afternoon after setting sail it was a nice introduction to the islands.

Baltra, Galapagos

No a real rating just visited the aeroporto on arriving and leaving. Celebrity lounge with drinks and snacks. Many tourist shop kiosks some nice kitch to buy if you like.

Celebrity Xpedition

Celebrity Xpedition

1. Structured trip relying on excursions with lots of walking consider your level of mobility. 2. When you board there will be nice Nalgene water bottles in your room. Write your name and room number on them and fill them with ice water before leaving on any excursion. Waiters will fill them for you at end of breakfast and lunch. 3. They have walking sticks available when you leave for an excursion don't be embarrassed take one if you need it 4. Get an expedition type hat with a wide brim, baseball cap will not cut it.

Jost Van Dyke, B.V.I.

Nice beach near soggy dollar bar. Several other beach bars on the strip. Get out early to grab a chair before they fill up.

Soper's Hole, Tortola, B.V.I.

Soper's Hole was decimated by hurricane Irma, and has not been completely recovered yet. Windstar has docked at Road Town the last two seasons though they continue to list Soper's Hole on their itinerary. Have not been to Road Town in years it has become an overbuilt cruise port with the usual panoply of jewelry shoppes, tourist shoppes etc. Cabs (we went to Cane Garden Bay beach) are now large jitneys carrying about 20 passengers. The problem is they only return once an hour on the hour island time. The beach has also been built up over the last few years and has lost much of its rustic charm. Hopefully Soper's Hole will reopen it is much smaller and more charming then Road Town.

Gustavia, St. Barthelemy

pretty island nice beaches nice town. Very French. Only port where we did a ship excursion. Morning catamaran sail on a small boat about 12 passengers. Nice sail, stop for swimming. Shell beach is a must at least once. Good shopping in town, there is a great liquor store on the main drag with a great selection of old rum. Great service if you speak French.

Falmouth Harbour,Antigua

Small port with a few bars and restaurants. Beaches close by ie Pigeon Galleon do not have services. Other beaches such as Jolly beach and Dickenson's Bay are about a 40 min cab ride. Cabs at Falmouth Harbor are unregulated and dilapidated, never sure what your getting. Nelsons Dockyard not much to see, just a few old buildings and a small museum. About 45 minutes to walk around unless you stop to eat and or drink.

Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda, B.V.I.

Beach BBQ very good. Bar service, beach toys, and massages on the beach. Some umbrellas and chairs are set up again arrive early to get one. Water is nice, beach is not that pretty. We visited the Baths years ago, beautiful do it once.

Wind Surf

Wind Surf

actually two pieces of advice: When docking or mooring watertight bulkheads are closed on first and second decks and most rooms are not accessible by elevator. as there are several doors fore and aft there are several compartments each with several rooms accessible by only one specific staircase. Remember which one! Ship is not designed for those with mobility issues.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Been here many times like this island usually take cab to beach Megan's bay or Secret Harbor . Walk around town once if you have never been here.

St. John's, Antigua

We like Dickensons Bay Beach. Take a cab and rent a chair. Jolly beach resort does a nice day pass with lunch.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Been here many times. We stayed a few days post cruise at the Condado Vanderbilt hotel great experience. When visiting as a port of call walking old, visiting El Morro, an El Yunqu on your own are good experiences.

Bridgetown, Barbados

Have been all around the island. Now we just cab over t ok Barbados Hilton for a day pass

Castries, St. Lucia

Beautiful island. In the past we have toured the entire island including sulfer pits Pitons etc. A great way to see the island is by boat. You can get an 8 hrs sailboat charter with captain and crew for a reasonable cost. Rendezvous Resort is only a few minutes by cab from the port and they do a fantastic day pass

Basseterre, St. Kitts

Beaches not great one of the ports we do an excursion. Catamaran to Neves and lunch very enjoyable

Celebrity Summit

Celebrity Summit

Staff is great don't be afraid to ask you need or to voice any concerns

King's Wharf, Bermuda

Been here multiple times on the summit. Great port get transportation passes Take ferries to Hamilton and Saint George , Bus to beach. We like to be independent and Almost a.never take ship board excursions This year a shuttle bus service from king's wharf to Horseshoe Bay beach has been instituted it was $7 1 way per person and is well worth it. Horseshoe Beach however has gotten much more crowded than in the past but remains beautiful.

Soper's Hole, Tortola, B.V.I.

Totally destroyed by Hurricane. Ship made Port at Road Town. Only there for a few hours though to get to beach without excursion. Don't know when Sopers Hole will reopen.
