Substitute Port

With the horrible devastation St. Maarten experienced from Irma, I am guessing it will not be on itineraries. Does anyone know how this works? Will they substitute? I called Carnival but they said they wouldn't know until the week of. I'm not sure if I should cancel my excursion. TIA Happy

I think a lot of cruises will change too the western and southern Caribbean.  I'd cancel an excursion.

So they would change the ports that were not touched as well? We go to Grand Turk, PR & St. Kitts which are still having ships come in and out.

It is to my understanding they'll contact you about the change in itineray.  However, I would be proactive and make the call to your cruise line and see if they will have any news for you with changes.

I would also contact the host of the tour and make sure they will refund with the short notice the cruise line will give. Otherwise, I would consider cancelling now (based on the lack of customer service of the tour company).

If you booked the excursion privately, I would advise you to call the company to see if they are still in business and to find out the cancellation policy. It may not be possible to even do the excursion if you get to the port, due to damage from the hurricane.

Even if just one of your ports cannot be reached, your whole ininerary may need to be changed, but the Cruiseline will let you know when they get details confirmed.

Thank you! I called yesterday but since my cruise isn't for another 6 weeks, they had no updates. I will probably just keep calling back weekly.

Fortunately, the excursion is through Carnival so they would process a refund for us! Big Smile

Perfect. That's another good reason to book excursions through the cruiseline.

Since it is a Carnival excursion, there is really no worry. They will cancel and refund it as soon as the itinerary is changed.

I know we won't be going to St Martin, and that is the one port in which I had already booked an independent excursion (see, even when I don't procrastinate, I still end up in a jam).

We had only paid a deposit for the three of us, so I'm not even going to chase a refund.  I figure they need the money worse than we do, and the company may not even exist anymore.

We are going to book the rest of the excursions through RCCL since the hurricanes seem to keep on forming.  I'd rather pay a few extra bucks and save the hassle.  I have an inquiry in for a tour in Aruba, but no money has changed hands, so I'm just gonna forget about doing that one.
