How would you rate the Ruby Princess?

Hi All,

My husband and I are looking at the 10 night Princess Ruby cruise November 30 from Fort Lauderdale. We've never sailed princess before. We have sialed Carnival and Royal. We're very low key people. We're not big drinkers or partiers. We're early 40s. We're basically looking for a cruise to relax and see some new sights. Can we get some reviews on the Ruby Princess? How would you compare it to Carnival and Royal? Pros/Cons?

Thanks!

OMG....LMAO................

Big Smileha-ha-ha. You’re certainly on a roll today!

There was once a writer, who built a boat using precious stones. I’m sure you’ve heard of it,

The Ruby Yacht of Omar Kayam. Big Smile

Outstanding commentary...rational, incisive, pragmatic even...have a beer....

Honestly its impossible to compare our reviews, there are so many factors that influence our reviews just on one cruise alone. I remember reading a review where one couple had the time of there life and yet another was so disappointed by missing a port and the food quality. Read our reviews first and then book it and let us know what you thought. The crew members also influence our decisions and yet they are constantly being shuffled as there contracts end. This site takes the totality of the Reviews per ship and assigns a rating of positive vs negative scoring in an attempt to give us some constructive tool to gauge them by.

We are looking to book next year, after the spruce-up. I love the class of ship as it is not so large as to wear you out. Princess is my go to cruise line I enjoy the style and itineraries.

Suggestion, Get Geo-tags , just in case.

and really enjoy your cruise.

Hi we sailed on The RP in January and I had been a little bit worried as I didn't think the reviews were great, but we were actually really pleased with our experience.

I have to qualify this though and say it was our first cruise and so not really anything to compare it with but we enjoyed our time and know it will be even better next time knowing a bit more about what to expect.

As you we are quiet and not big into the social side of stuff and I would say at times it felt a bit noisy, but I think we could have found better spaces and places for a bit of a quieter time but we just never really seemed to get the time.

There were plenty of activities we really enjoyed some shows, comedians (seats get taken very quickly as they are not huge venues), talks, information sessions.

There was other stuff based around the pool areas that was more of a party vibe but too noisy for us.

We didn't use the pools they were busy enough but not overcrowded I didn't think.plenty if small bar areas to sit in.

The staff were amazing very attentive.

The accommodation whilst maybe a tad dated was very spacious and comfortable and spotlessly cleaned.

There were numerous eating options some free some attracted a cost. We didn't get round them all. Preferred the informal big buffet areas although the quality of the food was probably a little compromised. Plenty of variety though and I especially enjoyed the breakfast. There were more formal free dining options which we did try a couple of times and it was definitely a restaurant experience but we were really happy with the buffet.

The only thing I would say is the free drinks werent great the ice tea and lemonade were horrific, water free, filter coffee (okish) free and good tea options. We didn't pay for a drinks package so we're happy to pay (I think $5) for a daily speciality coffee.

All in all we really enjoyed our experience and can't wait to go back...but as I say nothing else to directly compare to.

Regards

My wife and I sailed the Panama canal cruise on Ruby in Jan. - Feb. 2024. The ship is pretty relaxed and did not seem crowded even though I believe it was sold out. The food was pretty good most of the time. The beef tended to be better than the fish in terms of proper cooking. The fish sometimes seemed overdone. The service was quite good (cabin, restaurants, and bars). I would consider sailing the Ruby again. The only real disappointment (not the fault of Princess) was high wind gusts preventing us from making port in the Cayman Islands.

If you go to the "REVIEWS" section, (click on reviews at the top of this page). follow the prompts scroll to your ship, you will have more current info. Just looked...all kinds of folks putting in their .02. BTW, last drydock/refurb was in 2018...so although theres no specifics I can find, they're due for a refurb as well...not just mechanicals..good luck!!

Just noticed I already posted to this..oh well...its all downhill from here heheheheh

You're in some amount of luck! The Ruby Princess is going in for dry dock service in September, so there should be a number of things cleaned up and brought to spiffy new condition. I'm curious if they'll do just a basic nautical maintenance or a more extensive refurbishment, but the lines are quite taciturn about their plans. Cross your fingers!
