Bait and switch?

My wife and I received an email from Princess a couple of weeks ago advertising new early booking specials for 2026 European cruises. We liked a Norwegian Fjords cruise so we called our Princess Cruise Consultant to book. We ended up booking an aft facing balcony, with the Premier Package for $5635. We paid our deposit and he sent us a booking confirmation. I checked our online account with Princess and everything was as booked. The following day I checked again. Without any notification, our cruise price was now $6871. After 2 hours on the phone today I was told a code was entered incorrectly and they won’t honour our original agreement. Am I being fleeced?

Signed, a very p**sed consumer

Something does not sound right. IF you booked with a Princess cruise consultant, AND received the confirmation email stating the price (deposit paid, itinerary, and remaining balance) your particular cruise price should NOT have increased. If a non-Princess cruise person made the booking, I could see a change -- possibly -- but not a true Princess Cruise Consultant.

something that might work would be to call a travel agency and ask if they could help you? you would have to transfer your booking to them, but they will go over their heads and just maybe it might work.

since it is a new booking and not paid in full, it might.

As a part time agent i would try for anyone. My hope is that you remember for your next trip.

Bad business; poor customer satisfaction leads to bad word of mouth. it would be in their interest to honor original price. Escalate up the Princess corporate ladder.

This still amazes me to be willing to pay over $5600 and somehow there was a pricing error so now were going to raise it to $6800 after you made a deposit? Furthermore they did not call or email you to tell you in advance? I have loyalty but i understand that business is business. I reward good cruiseliines with my future business. Princess just gave me $50 credit because they failed to respond to my email 1.5 yrs ago! I laughed mostly. Hey at least they acknowledged my email? My VTG consultant said its a contract once you book it by deposit...there maybe woggle room if something glitched but you need to ask for more proof. I think they will be honest with you? However what i think means nothing. Cruise for less and cruise more, see you at sea! Thats where my friends are!

Tell them you are calling the BBB and an attorney

Just cancel. Hopefully you have a refundable deposit. You have booked so far in advance that prices will definitely fluctuate many times, hopefully lower. Check out other cruise lines like Holland America, Cunard, Celebrity and Viking. You do not need to settle for a negative experience.

Best wishes!

you should bubble this up until they refuse and get a refund and take your money to another cruise line. i am a budget cruiser who rarely pays over $100 a day total costs...but these new inflationary times i am having to change my daily limits. i do not purchase anything extra and inside cabins only. i realize many have different preferences, mine is to sail 70 days a year and at $500 a day i would spend alot more lol. contacts are legal documents that have consequences for both parties.

I would cancel the this love boat!Angry

You want a short answer...yes you are...THEY don't care, and so neither should you...,I assume you paid the deposit by c/c (how else?)..and cancel it immediately. Don't bother speaking to anyone, you tried that eh? Dispute the charge on your c/c..don't wait anymore...no call necessary...i assume its also no longer "pending"....you don't need to go into gory detail. you know who you spoke to...matter of fact, your short original post was just fine..(add dates and amounts).....you can't? won't?...you have some "status" with them?? or some sort of "loyalty"?.....riiiiight.....well then............good luck!!!!

I’m not a lawyer, but somehow I feel they are not fulfilling a contract made by one of their employees. Most of the customer service reps agreed with me. It was the team in the “escalation department “ that refused.
