Our last night on board, Marq was in the Lobby area partying up with the band and lots of guest. Among the guest was a toddler running around playing when he spied the doors open out to 3 deck and bolted out. The parents were mixed in the other guest and not watching the child. However, someone smoking where they shouldnt be smoking saw the baby and ushered the child back inside.

True Debbie, but it might have been a pretty busy area, and kids can move fast. The accident may have happened before anyone close by even realized she was hoisting herself up. During debarkation there is so much overcrowding the deck areas and people are busy chatting and getting themselves ready to leave, no one noticed in time.

What disturbs me is that none of the adults around tried to stop her ... as a stranger, I would say something to a child doing something dangerous whether the parents were there or not. I agree that Carnival is not responsible and people should not look at this as negligence on their part.

I agree GrandmaJo. I posted on another thread that I could see our 7 yr old grandson doing something like that - housing himself onto the railing to sit on it or look over etc. He is so active all the time, and he's a real daredevil, never thinking ahead of the potential dangers of situations. It sounds like this little girl was just having fun at the time. There was nothing that the Carnival staff could have done, it was just a very unfortunate accident at the end of a family vacation. So, so sad.

Such a sad thing to happen :(

It's been reported that she was leaning over the rail trying to get a family member's attention on the deck below. An enterprising 8 year old could figure a way to boost themselves up, but there is no way this happened without some effort on her part. I'm not trying to be unsympathetic or to lay blame, but rather to assure new cruisers that this isn't a lack of safety measures on Carnival's part.

This is very sad. DV unfortunately there are some very sick people in this world of ours.

There's also a video taken from above as they put up a partition to block off people's view on the same level. I didn't watch the video but from the thumbnail it looks like they're a level of 2 above and filming the girl lying getting medical attention

Sad! I don't know what happened, but I'm sure she didn't just "fall" over the railing: 1) an 8yo is too short to fall over that 2) the ship was docked so there was no movement 3) where were the parent(s)? I am so very sorry for the family at their loss, but this sounds "fishy". I am happy they took down those picture, however I hope the investigating personnel got some of them for the work they must do now.

Crying

Some idiots had posted very graphic photos that have since been taken down .... who snaps a picture of an injured / dead child and posts it on the internet ... seriously I can't get the image out of my mind ...so so sad ...

Very sad news. Prayers for her and her family. May she Rest in Peace.
