Great Caribbean cruise

Just be prepared to walk a lot including on the ship as it is huge. This ship is very stable and didn’t hear of anyone getting seasick. Our cabin was great and service everywhere was excellent. We loved the thermal spa and would use that service again on another Norwegian Cruise. One set of elevators doesn’t have a 5th floor access button??🤨

Wonderful NZ and AU

My daughter needed a vegan diet and the chefs really provided good food for her.  This is always a problem for us traveling away from home.  This made our whole cruise experience great.  While the weather was not quite as good on our trip as expected we had no real problem with the rough seas we experienced.  Mother Nature can not totally be controlled or predicted and definitely some on our cruise suffered from sea sickness.  The Noordam had a very good acupuncture specialist on board who is capable of providing relief to this malady.  I bought his services for other maladies and was very satisfied.  Holland America has provided this type service on other cruises and I really appreciate that.

We also really enjoyed the Noordam Singers and Dancers shows and also Clara Helms, a great singer.  Anna and Svetlana played beautiful music several times a night in one of the lounges so we were able to enjoy great music most nights.

Beautiful Hawaii

This cruise gave us an overview of Hawaii.  We started our trip with a six day on our own stay on the big island of Hawaii.  We loved our stay there but would not have had any idea about the other islands.  Now we know that while the other islands we visited on the cruise each have great points about them, our heart is with the big island and we will return there for future trips to Hawaii next winter.  We had a veranda and it was worth the extra cost because this ship is crowded especially for lounging around the pool.  Our best excursions were to the seahorse farm in Kona and the gardens in Kauai.  As far as the food was concerned it was great with especially good pineapple.  Their coffee is so so and it isn't the good Hawaiian coffee we had on land.  Their workout area does not allow for stretching or floor work at all.  The large area that is used for classes could be left for people to use when class isn't in session.  But it is locked up and there is no room anywhere else.  There were also a lot of complaints about their "water policy".  The security people as you boarded back after a day ashore made you either drink or pour out all liquids.  They said it was not their policy but the ships. We felt this to be abuse especially since we had bought our water on the ship for our excursion. Be prepared for this to either chug or pour out.  Some people had bought some type of plan to use the SPA area during the cruise and I can see that might be an advantage since the showers while good are tiny.   All in all we enjoyed our introduction to Hawaii on this cruise.

Cruise tips

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Watch out for the beggars known as gypsies in Rome. The hop on bus does not take you close to the Vatican Museaum. Look for other means of transportation or be prepared for a very long walk back and forth. Everything is crowdered and there are long lines.

Cannes, France

There is a nice beach right near where the tender boats dock. Great to see how clean and clear the water is on this beach.

Barcelona, Spain

We arrived two days before our cruise and had a chance to take the train to Monserrat. Wonderful art at the museum and the scenery is breathtaking. The Familia cathedral was breathtaking. Barcelona is a wonderful city.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

Maybe should have taken the shuttle bus to town. There is a huge shopping center with nice prices for clothes that we walked to from the ship if that would interest you.

Naples, Italy

Took the tour offered by the ship to Sorrento. It was fine and the pizza was good. Italy is just packed with tourists. That was the only problem in all the three Italian cities we visited.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

We had a private tour which was great. However, still wall to wall people. Our tour guide in Florence called it a “phenomena” the huge increase in tourists to Italy in the past 3 to 4 years. People from all over the world have a freer opportunity to travel than at any time in the past. And Italy with its history seems to be a huge draw.

Sign up for the thermal spa package if you have any issues with walking on this cruise.

Melbourne, Australia

This city was just packed with people on a Sunday just enjoying the nice day and each other. People just enjoying life. No special program or activity brought them out. I asked.

Auckland, New Zealand

The people in this city are in shape and really walk fast. NZ will ban sale of cigarets in 2018. They want to lower health care costs for their national health system.

Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

The night time visit to the animal refuge was the highlight for us plus just walking into town and visiting the museum there was great too.

Visit the actupointer specialist if you get sea sick.

Nawiliwili, Kauai

One of us went ziplining among the treetops and the other for a long walk through some wonderful gardens. A great day for both of us.

Honolulu, Oahu

Very crowded with lots of traffic. Great looking beaches but our stay didn't allow us to enjoy them.

The pool deck area is very crowded. If not going ashore for the day use those hours to get to use that area. One day when we got back early from a shore excursion was the only time we used the SPAs around the pool.
