Review summary

With our service being as wonderful as it was, it made the entire cruise "special".  Our stateroom and balcony along with location was most enjoyable.  Our one request of Holland America is that they band smoking from the balconies.  Our 3 staterooms endured "used smoke" from ahead of us which was most distasteful since no one in our family smokes or ever has smokes.  This is enough for us to consider a cruise line that does not allow smoking on the balcony in the future.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Dining room not always consistent. Had to send a couple items back to be reheated. A little disappointed in food quality. Lido was good but somewhat a free for all with people cutting in on lines and people not sure where lines started or ended. The Dive In was excellent!

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

Theater seating is difficult with all the poles in view.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our service was absolutely excellent from the staff. Eggy, Toapik dining room with Joseph wine steward to Pitiko and Gede our stateroom. Enjoyed them all and was a pleasure to get to know them. Front desk also, always helpful with any info needed. Thank you

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin was excellent and made for an enjoyable time. Our service was top notch as well.

Ship tip

Side elevators a huge plus. We think a lot of people thought they were just part of the ship. We loved them.

it amazes me people complain so much about smokers. i am a non drinker and i never complain about people who drink, you can smell alcohol on people constantly and i dont like that but do i complain? No! Alcohol causes more proplems than smokers, you have the drunks falling down, being loud, starting trouble, never hear of a smoker falling overboard, people start drinking when they get up and it continues all day, but yet everyone wants to complain about someone smoking where they are allowed to do so. i think they should have a drinking section. ohh wait they do the entire ship. JUST MY OPINION!

There are a lot of other lines that do not permit smoking on stateroom balconies. It is only a matter of time before Holland America prohibits smoking on balconies as well.  I am not a smoker either and I rarely take a balcony cabin on Holland America because of the smoking policy.

When you don't like it, take next time a cruise line where smoking is not allowed (there are so many cruise lines where smoking is not allowed) but don't try to change the smoking policy only for yourself and some other complaining people. There are also people they choose specially for HAL because they can smoke on there balcony! There are more people in the world than only the not smoking people

i am a smoker and enjoy being able to relax on my private balcony and smoke but I understand what you are saying. I think there should be verandah smoking rooms grouped together so non smokers can also enjoy their balcony. Love hal, think it's the only cruise line left that allows smoking on private verandas. That's why we like them.
