Review summary

This is a wonderful cruise with the Croatian and Greek stop being the highlights. It was very disappointing not to see the David and the Uffizi in Florence, and Viking should indicate in its materials that because of the day of the week for this stop these two sights cannot be visited.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All dining options were great, although after a eight to ten days choices get a bit repetitive.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Fitness center and spa were great although sea water pool was not warm last day of trip

Entertainment

did not attend

Children's Programs

no children on Viking duh

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The best part of Viking is its people.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship as so many common areas that it takes a few days to get to all of them and each of them offered an enjoyable moment. Elevators were quick and quiet.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin is quite roomy and was definitely clean. The furnishings were comfortable, clean and fit perfectly. Our only complaint was air conditioning; we were often uncomfortable while sleeping even with the thermostat at the lowest setting. Several night we had to turn it off and open the veranda door to cool down.

Ship tip

Diet before you sail.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Lots to do and just not enough time to take it in even with going two days early. It is an exceptional city.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

4 out of 5
Glad to have visited but not a overly interesting destination.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
We toured the city of Lucca and had an excellent time. It was a short ride and lots to see without being over run by tourists. If Viking needs to fix one think on this cruise, it is don't have a port stop in Florence on a Monday when all the museums are closed. Who wants to pay $6k to 9k per person for a cruise (and flights) that goes to Florence and yet you cannot see the David or visit the Uffizi. Florence is a great stop, but lacking without those two places to visit. This was truly a scheduling failure, which is why we went to Lucca. Seems like this is fixable and was really the only disappointment for this cruise.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5
We visited Civitavecchia and enjoyed its real town flavor again without many tourists.

Naples, Italy

3 out of 5
Too crowded and because we were there on a holiday traffic was miserable.

Cruise Ionian Sea

5 out of 5
We enjoyed every minute of our day at sea

Corfu, Greece

5 out of 5
An unexpected delight

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
Lots to see in this beautiful city.

Split, Croatia Did not visit port

Again, like Corfu and Dubrovnik, this was a gem of a port city. We stay in town for a long a possible to enjoyed all that it offered.

Venice, Italy

4 out of 5
Flying a quarter way around the work and sailing for 12 days only to get a half a day in Venice is kind of disappointing. Venice deserves more time. Shuttle boat service to the city was a joke it took 90 minutes from the time we disembarked our ship to get to Venice

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
no problems other than damaged luggage and apparently no Viking staff, only contractors, in disembarkation area to facilatite matters.
