Viking Sea

10 Night West Indies Explorer (San Juan Roundtrip)

Sail date: November 07, 2018

Ship: Viking Sea

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Overall a OK cruise, had higher expectations since Viking markets themselves as a high end cruise experience. I thought it was an average experience. The ship also needs a new horn. Sounds like it has laryngitis. We all had a good laugh we it was blow. All other ships in the harbor had real horns!

Hotel bus loading was somewhat disorganized. Especially the luggage handling.

Food and Dining

Most of our meals were very good, but some especially at Manfredi’s did not meet our expectations. The short ribs were hard to eat full of bones, very little meat, felt like I needed a chain saw to get at the meat, not the fall off the bone I would expect. The lobster thurmador was also disappointing, very little lobster mainly filler. One night we had a 7:00pm appointment, diner service was good but desert took forever to come! We ended up being the last to leave the dining room. The table service at the buffet was ver spotty, especially when trying to get drinks, we had to ser ourselves with coffee a number of times, wine was also hard to get at time. The servers would walk by with bottles is hand but had tunnel vision. Even waving or politely calling to them had no effect as they walked by.

Cabin / Stateroom

We were traveling with friends who had the adjacent cabin. We like to sit out on the balcony in the mornings and evenings to enjoy our experience together. But Viking has a policy that the divider between cabins has to be closed while the ship is under way. The was a real issue since we had excursions ever day in port and as we got back onboard the closed the divider. Having cruise numerous times we never had this issue before. Ver disappointing!
