Fabulous way to see the interior of Europe by bgraeff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Njord

This cruise isn't about enjoying a luxury liner as much as it is about getting off the coast and into the mainland. The Rhine and its towns are historic and gorgeous. We loved every excursion, sometime doing two in a single day. We evening did two evening trips for meals and entertainment -- and loved them all. Staying on board the ship and the small rooms doesn't seem to be very inviting, but the ship is a great way to see place you could not otherwise visit. Highly recommended.

Outstanding in Every way by seajai14

Viking really lived up to their advertising. The cruise was fantastic. The ship was clean and beautiful. The crew and staff were helpful and friendly. The food was great and they offered local wines, beers, dishes, and desserts. Our favorite part was an extension tour in Nuremberg on WWII. All the tour guides were knowledgeable and informative. We were Viking Virgins and are already thinking about where we want to go next.

Overall Good Experience by rkoller52

Overall, the staff was very good, although some additional variation in the food offerings and canned music in the lounge would have been appreciated.

Also, owing to high water (v. bridge clearances), the upper deck was closed for about three days. I think we and others felt cooped-up, and couldn't quite understand why sections of the upper deck weren't made available when we were docked. Assume there was some valid reason.

Walking tours tended to be longer and tedious, especially for older folks.

Having said all this, we would probably consider going on another Viking cruise although we would plan a bit more about what we might do on our own when making shore visits.

Two days in Budapest prior to cruise were great, as was the local host!

3 Viking Njord tips

Actually, we were on two ships; Freya at Nuremberg and Njord from Passau. We would have preferred being notified in advance of change ship so we could have planned unpacking/packing more efficiently. Otherwise, the actual change ship was seamless.

Do excursions every day. They are the real highlight of this cruise. Staying on the ship or wandering aimlessly around the port of the day would be a very disappointing way to enjoy this cruise.
