Review summary

This cruise isn't about enjoying a luxury liner as much as it is about getting off the coast and into the mainland. The Rhine and its towns are historic and gorgeous. We loved every excursion, sometime doing two in a single day. We evening did two evening trips for meals and entertainment -- and loved them all. Staying on board the ship and the small rooms doesn't seem to be very inviting, but the ship is a great way to see place you could not otherwise visit. Highly recommended.

Checking in was very smooth. There wasn't a Send-Off party that comes with some ocean liners, but we got into our room very quickly,.but

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The ship's only dining room was adequate, though not at the stellar level of some of the larger ocean liners. All dining is at tables of 6 or 8 people and the service is fairly rushed. But the food quality was above average and you can order multiple selections, if desired.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Other than the daily announcements, there really aren't any onboard activities. There was a jazz pianist who played music in the ship's only lounge for brief periods in the evening.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The only real entertainment is the afternoon meetings where the Program Director previews the following day's activities. This is not the kind of cruise where there are performers and dancing each night.

Children's Programs

No children were permitted on this cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was great. Cabin staff, servers, bartenders, reception area -- everyone was pleasant and eager to help us have a great time.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is small (only three decks) and easy to navigate from the lounge to the dining hall to the sun deck.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our cabin was very small. The veranda was tiny. And when the ship was docked, at least half of the days we were parked up against a giant wall, giving us zero view. There was very little room in the state room and no place really to sit. The bed was comfortable and the restroom was adequate, but when we were awake and dressed, we never stayed inside our cabin.

Ship tip

Do excursions every day. They are the real highlight of this cruise. Staying on the ship or wandering aimlessly around the port of the day would be a very disappointing way to enjoy this cruise.

Fabulous town to visit. The Cathedral is magnificent. We had a wonderful lunch on our own near the cathedral and sampled their Kolsch beer. Such a fun time!

Another wonderful visit of a superfortress that was too formidable to be attacked. The guide was hilarious and entertaining.

The walk through town was wonderful. So many great shops for wine, cheese, pretzels, and more. The cathedral was also wonderful.

We toured a WWII site called Colmar. The guide was extraordinary, the museum wonderful, and the towns and villages were inspiring. Best tour of the week? Maybe!

Disembarkation

Simple, organized, painless. We pre-ordered a taxi to take us to the airport. Everything went seamlessly!
