Oceania is still one of my favourite cruise lines because of the staff, service and food and size of their ships. Their excursions are far too expensive and not always as described. Try to book your own flights as theirs can be inconvenient and they charge a large deviation fee if you want an alternative flight.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Arrived at the Terminal early in the morning after a night flight from the west coast that Oceania booked for us. The terminal was locked and we were left standing in the pouring rain for over an hour before being allowed to enter the terminal lounge.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
All dining venues were excellent, great food and service and no charge for the speciality restaurants.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Being a small ship there were not as many activities as one may experience on the mega ships but the pool area and fitness centre were very well maintained with plenty of deck chairs and clean towels available.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
A small cast of entertainers but, they they were all excellent.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All of the ship's staff were exceptional - always smiling and happy to be of service.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
I love the intimacy of the smaller ships - everything is close at hand and easy to find. Although an older design the ship was spotless throughout and especially enjoyed the Barista for a speciality coffee and the library was very well stocked.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabins are smaller than on other cruise lines and the bathrooms are tiny but, very well maintained with the most comfortable bedding. We soon got used to the limited space and used the balcony a lot. Still plenty of storage space for our clothing for a 3 week cruise.
Ship tip
This ship is about to undergo a refurbishment so expect grander surroundings.
We arrived 3 hrs. late (due to the river's current?) and were tendered in so we missed our privately arranged tour due to lack of time. A big disappointment. Surely the current is a known factor in this day and age and should have been foreseen.
We opted for Oceania's Pink Dolphin Encounter excursion - Big Mistake! Expensive and was not at all as described in their brochure. Not worth the time nor the price. Beware of Oceania's tours as they can be misleading.
A huge city - very lively. An excursion to the summit of Christ the Redeemer was well worth the visit. Unfortunately the weather was too hot on the second day to do much of anything.
This June will be our fourth cruise with Oceania. Our first one was in 2011. I can see a huge decline in their service. The food isn't as good in the MDR. They've screwed up our shore excursions. I have a feeling this will be our last.cruise with them. That being said, we prefer the smaller ships so we're in a quandary what to do in the future.
