For our first experience with Silvermoon, we were very pleased. I felt we were treated like family. I believe that Silversea operations truly believe in enhancing the experience with all inclusive premium beverages, gratuities, and some excursions. The only thing I wished we had during our guided tours were headsets. Most of the time, we had a hard time hearing our guides and missed out on what was being said. We also chose to have Silversea arrange travel with 1st class upgrade. This worked for us this time because of the canceled flights. We were able to hang out in the premium airline clubs during layovers. I loved the philosophy of promoting their staff within. I would consider going on another Silversea cruise.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We arrived one day prior to embarkation. There was a bus awaiting us at the hotel along with a Silversea representative at the hotel. She told us we didn't have to get on the bus as long as we were at the port by 4PM. We took this opportunity to walk around the town, shop, and tour and chose to walk to the ship. Our bags were already taken to our rooms. Embarkation was easy. Just showed them our reservation and passport. They took our pictures for use on the ship. Plenty of staff to help us get to our rooms.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
This was between 4 and 5 stars. Not enamored with the breakfast buffet. We loved the some of the formal dining rooms. We didn't attempt to go to the premium dining rooms that cost extra. I thought the Viking Cruise buffets were definitely better and no premium costs for any of the dining rooms. I was surprised to find out that there were no dinner buffets, but understand with a smaller ship, they can accommodate all sit down. We loved the wine sommelier and the daily selections of red and white. They were kind enough to have a bottle of wine sent to our room for our own when we wanted to have a drink. We loved having butler/steward service where we would have coffee delivered every morning. Bartenders were fantastic and enjoyed finding out where they came from. We have a Peruvian bartender who made a fantastic pisco sour. My husband and I have been on paleo diet and that was a challenge to make sure none of the buffet foods were prepared with grain, processed sugar and dairy. However, we adjusted and made sure we knew what was going into the foods.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We didn't participate in the fitness center or pool. It was too cold and rainy for most of the days. We loved playing bingo and trivia.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Loved the entertainers, DJ, and a guest performer from NY who appeared twice while on board.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
We had our own butler and room steward. They immediately greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed. We requested nuts and fruits. For this trip, we had VIP service, which was granted to us because of two flight cancelations causing us to arrive in Iceland two days later. VIP allowed us to have laundry done without cost. All servers, ship personnel were very responsive. After I completed a survey with comments after 3 days on the ship, I received immediate feedback from the Hotel Operations Managers letting me know they appreciated my comments. Silversea takes all comments seriously and are pro-active.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Layout was great. Common areas were very clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
I loved our cabin size. The room was very comfortable and clean. We had room service twice a day. It was nice to store our luggage under the bed and plenty of room to hang and store our clothing. We had plenty of room to walk around our bed, living area and the balcony.
Ship tip
Don't pack 10 days of clothing. There is self laundry service on each floor. Also, no need to take shampoo, conditioner, soap, or lotion.
We arrived 2 days later than planned but was able to book through Viator and close encounter with the puffins and also a diving trip to dive the Silfra fissure and drive the Golden Circle. These were planned on our own.
We were able to squeeze in a little tour Winchester Cathedral on way to airport. While it was raining and I didn't have a rain jacket nor umbrella (which we did manage to buy for $10 in town), we did enjoy our tour guide and the walking tour.
