Review summary

Our issues started during the planning process. Wes Romero, our cruise reservationist, did not take the best care of our party. For example, he got the names mixed up on our reservation and sent our reservation to our friends home. Secondly, the air travel reservations were terrible. They were rude, and it was a very laborious process to book our flights. Unfortunately, with this particular cruise line, they handle the air part too. We had all of our flight confirmed, and then a couple of weeks before the cruise, my wife revealed that our flights had changed. She learned about it through the airline, but not through Wes and Regent. The revised flight from anchorage to Seattle was too early and we would not have been able to make it. So, REGENT revise it again, and we had to go out the next day. So, unfortunately, we had to spend an extra night in Anchorage before departing on our flight the next day. Secondly, the longest leg of our flight, my wife and I were in different seats in different rows in first class. We paid for a suite on the ship which cost over $30,000 and first class flights and on the longest leg of our flight back home, we sat separately. This just seemed like icing on the cake for us.

Embarkation

Getting on the ship was easy and fine. When we got to our room, our suite was small and not what the picture showed. We found out that there are different sized same name suites and we ended up getting a small one despite explaining we were entertaining 2 other couples in our suite. Our reservationist was Wes (William) Romero. He didn’t call us back to help us straighten it out. He was aloof during the entire planning process and difficult to get ahold of. Didn’t seem to really care.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The ship was absolutely gorgeous. The restaurants were beautiful. The service however was inconsistent and the food was inconsistent. There was a definite language barrier between the servers and the patrons. We saw it with our group and with other groups on board. Not sure if it was because we went to Alaska at the end of the season and most of the qualified staff were no longer on the ship but it was a problem. Especially for an expensive cruise like this one you can do better Regent seven seas explorer.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
It was cold and windy so we didn’t use the pool or the rock climbing walls. The fitness center was very nice and the hot tub was very nice. We did play shuffleboard and hit some golf balls and walked around the deck but that was it.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
This was by far the most disappointing aspect of the cruise. We attended all the shows and we’re disappointed. The talent was mixed. Some were better than others but overall, the entertainment left much to be desired.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Other than our Butler, the service we received in the restaurant was inconsistent at best. Most of the time the food was not hot. Also, some got served way before others. It was a challenge each morning to get a cup of coffee. One morning, one person in our group, got their coffee quickly and the other five had to wait about 15 minutes to get their coffee. We asked the waiter several times, and they said it’s coming. We went to the Asian fusion restaurant twice. The first time we went. It was great but it the second time, it was bad. The food was over cooked and it wasn’t hot

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship itself was beautiful.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Although we did not get the suite that we expected, and that was pictured, when we reserved it, Our suite was beautiful. Our Butler was fantastic. Best we ever had. In fact, we were supposed to have a table that sat six people in our room. When we got to our room, there was a small table that only sat for. Our butler replaced the table with the six top. Unfortunately, the room was more crowded because they did not remove the four top but we were thankful to our Butler for solving this p problem. Our butler’s name was Naresh. He was the best part of our experience on the ship. 10 out of 10.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

5 out of 5
Every port of call and every excursion we took was incredible. 10 out of 10 stars. We did the pilots choice where our helicopter landed on two different glaciers. We went well watching. We went to the fjords on a boat, and we took a canoe to another glacier. All of these excursions were incredibly breathtaking.

Disembarkation

Very efficient. Very easy. Put our luggage outside our room the night before and it was gone by morning. Early in the morning we Met in the main lobby. Disembarked, loaded onto a Disembarked, loaded onto a bus, and I had a nice ride from Seward to Anchorage. it all worked out well.

You flew First Class and complain that you can't sit next to each other? Did you forget how seats are sold on flights? Wow.
