Be comfortable using technology when you cruise as there won’t be a traditional cruise director or many over-head announcements. You will be using the app to get updates or notifications. If you require a paper itinerary they do provide this, but around the ship in certain locations, but not daily in your cabin like other cruise lines.
Truly welcoming to everyone! Be accepting and open to others and you will have a ball! Also, no sales pitches, traditional dining, or traditional shows. If you desire a traditional cruise with a formal night, main dining room, and nightly theater this might not be for you!
Be open to a new way to cruise. There is no cruise line to compare this to. It’s different but in a good way. A lot of the extras (basic wifi, gratuities, speciality dining, etc) is already included in the price. Bookings for dining and excursions could fill up. Try to reserve as soon as you can.
Buy more "Loot" than you think you will need. Worse case scenario id, you buy a bottle or two in the duty free shops and take them home with you. Also, don't waste our time or money on the Thermal Suite pass. They get $70.00 per day. Its a sauna, steam, mud room and a bunch of hot/cold plunge pools. They have some warm marble slabs that are supposed to be somewhere to lay down but not like the thermal loungers on every other boat I've been on. There's a communal locker room with changing stalls. No basins or mirrors to shave in the steam (my personal favorite). Most ships sell you a length of stay package for like $200-$250 or so, and you could spend hours at a time. I was in and out in less than an hour and it would be $350 for the length of stay. Get room service at least once (even if its just for coffee and pastry in the morning). The way that they deliver food and drink is pretty cool. If Uber Eats or Door Dash did it this way, I'd probably order in more.
The elevators have spinning lights inside that didn't sit well with me. Also when you get off the boat it took me a while to realize that all the fore venues were listed in the left column and the aft venues on the right column. There was a distinct lack of signage around the ship.
Make sure you book your dining ahead of time. Bring red for scarlet night, nice PJs for the pajama party and 80s workout gear for the VHS workout class.
Make your dinner and activity reservations early on the app. Use a Facebook group to reach others in the ship to set up meet n greets. Don’t miss Duel Reality!
The app is a bit of a hit and miss for a lot of people but I am sure they will work out all the kinks. Make sure to book those reservations asap so you don't miss out
When using the Virgin app it will work every time if you close every other app on your phone before you open it. It won't work at all with lots of other apps open.
