Review summary

Overall we had a good experience. We enjoyed every port of call. The icecream on Princess international Cafe was delicious but the other stuff , not impressed. After this one experience with Princess Cruises, we can say we like Carnival cruises better.

Embarkation in Seattle was excellent, it was a breeze. Very fast and well organized

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

This is where we had a pause. The buffet menu was not so good. We felt like there were fewer options than we are used to. I think the pizza was terrible and my husband was upset that it was not available 24hrs. On the upside, diner in the restaurants was great. The other thing I was not thrilled about was having so many restaurants you had no pay extra fees to dine in.

Ship tip

The ship is fine, huge. It is too bad the shower area in your stateroom is so miniature. Yes, I know the cabins are never huge but comparing to our 4 previous cruises with Carnival, we felt these were extremely small. Overall the trip was great and I think a must do.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

We did not get to see much in Seattle but we enjoyed visiting the Space Needle and the Glass museum.

Juneau, Alaska

Absolutely loved whale watching and hiking to Nugget Falls at Mendanhall Glacier National Park. The town was even bigger than I thought

Skagway, Alaska

Small town but cozy atmosphere. It was very windy on the day of our visit but we were still able to explore hiking and floating down the river.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Victoria, British Columbia

I was expecting small town and was pleasantly surprised it was not. I wish we had more time to explore this town.

I'm kinda curious too @CelineG... I'm only 42 and embarking next week on my very first cruise.

Hi Chris! When you say “older” crowd. How old are we talking about. We just booked our first cruise on this ship for a pacific coastal cruise and hope we aren’t too out of place.

Having both Carnival and Princess trips, I do agree that Carnival does do some things better (24 hour pizza, free pasta lunches in the pay Italian restaurant), but overall we still like the Princess better for food, entertainment, and relaxing.

Agree with CruisesbyChris. There is a big decline in dining room food. They want you to pay more money 💰 for better food and choices when it used to be free. Once upon a cruise way back when.

Unfortunately, the increase in specialty restaraunts and decline of the main dining room experience is becoming a trend across all lines these days. ☹

We loved the Ruby on our Pacific Coastal cruise and I've never heard complaints from clients. I know it is an older crowd and a little different experience than Carnival, but just curious, what you did not like? btw...I think Carnival is great too.
