Alaska was phenomenal. The excursions were wonderful. The scenery was stellar. However the cruise line was very disappointing. Ruby Princess, I never will cruise them again.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Cruise line should have had more than two people checking in passengers.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
Food was deplorable. Items not available every day with no substitutes. Food at Grill was good but you paid extra for that restaurant. Day of crab legs, they were gone by 12:05 pm. Quite a few servers were rude.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Fitness center was ok. Bikes were chained together. No one available to help. Stretching class was good.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Entertainment was not great beginning of the week. Did improve by mid week. However not enough variety.
Children's Programs
Did not have children with me.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Steward was incompetent. Asked for help and he would direct you to handle it. Many of staff were rude. Felt like they were at end of their 9 month contract and they could care less about passengers.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Other than out Steward who did not keep room clean, rest of shop was maintained well.
Cabin / Stateroom
2 out of 5
Cleanliness was an issue as stated previously. Size was fine. Balcony was great especially seeing glaciers.
Sorry you didn't enjoy your trip. Cruising to Alaska IS all about the scenery and visiting "history" in the little towns. We took the Ruby to Alaska in June 2016 and loved it! We will also take the Ruby in November to the Mexican Riviera.
Holy Moly! Seriously? We are going on the Ruby Princess in a few weeks & I have never heard anything negative about this particular ship until now. I certainly hope this isn't the case for us. Sorry about your cruise.
Food not available. As an example served crab legs for lunch by 12:05 pm they were all gone. no replacement. italian food inedible. rude staff. I could go on.
We too had a problem with Carnival Alaska cruise and came up with reasoning. Thinking the Alaska views, wildlife and historic places will fulfill your cruise enjoyment. Having said that, fish served on ship in main dining room was inedible. We knew Carnival always served us well and didn't stop us continuing to sail with. It's the kinda "we don't care, look out your balcony" and that made it a memorable cruise
