Review summary

For the most part we had a good time on the Royal Princess. The Medallion app although it seemed glitchy at first seemed to work well to get on and off the ship, order food and drinks and find people you are traveling with and places on the ship. The food was a disappointment though. And although we paid for the premium package we received a bill for a few things that we shouldn't have. We are still dealing with the billing and spending a fair amount of time trying to sort out the billing.

Embarkation

One of the things that has always turned me off to cruises is the wait time to get on and off the ship. We walked right on, no lines, maybe we just got lucky but I think it was more due to the Medallion app system Princess cruises uses.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Our first meal on the ship was lunch at the Sushi bar, it was excellent. After that it didn't seem like we got a meal that was any better than mediocre. Even the Fancy restaurants seemed to be lacking. In particular Sabatinis. This is supposed to be a fancy Italian restaurant. The meal and service were terrible. Drinks on the ship and actually getting them was OK. If you were getting a mixed drink it seemed like the quality varied greatly.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
We visited the spa mostly because our package was supposed to include a free mini massage. What we got reminded me of going to a time share sales pitch. The person that came to help us insisted on about a 30 minute or more tour of the spa while trying to get us to sign up for one their overpriced treatments. After that we were ushered out the door. No mini massage, just a sales pitch. Very annoying.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the comedian shows and some of the game shows. The comedian and many of the shows seemed to disappear around day 5 though.

Service and Staff

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was confusing to get around some of the time. You had to go up to go down to access certain parts of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The room was nice but although we had requested twin beds and a few other options well ahead of time, we had to ask twice more on the ship.

Ship tip

Don't go for the food.

We have found boarding very efficient with the Medallion app too. Glad you enjoyed the ports. Lots to navigate on a cruise to have it fit what you like!
