Review summary

Overall, glad to have had the experience of visiting some beautiful places in Alaska and the ship was good, but not up to the standards of other cruise lines we've sailed with in the past. We won't hurry back to a Princess cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Simple and quick, no issues

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was decent , but not as good as we've had on other cruise lines. The Buffet and most dining room food was good, but nothing particularly special. The Italian night food in the main dining room was a big disappointment. The poolside burger grill and pizza bars were delicious.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There was always some sort of game show going on and seemed to be a many activities for kids (though we were only adults in our group.) The hot tubs were always overcrowded because it was too cool to be in an outdoor pool. For an Alaskan Cruise ship I expected there to be an indoor/enclosed swimming pool, but there wasn't. Someone "missed the boat" on that planning!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Like everything else on this ship, the entertainment was mostly mediocre. Not awful but certainly nothing special. There was one "broadway-ish" production show that had very good sets and costumes and puppets, but the music and story were unfortunately lacking.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Generally the staff was friendly and provided good service, though there were certain areas and times where they seemed to be under-staffed.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship seemed clean and comfortable except for the missing indoor pool!

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
For two people this cabin would have been easily manageable, but for four it was crazy small! When the beds were brought down from the ceiling (which had to be done and replaced by the cabin steward every day because there's no way to do it yourself) it is impossible to move about the cabin without banging your head! The steward was very kind and the cabin was well cleaned, but just too small for four guests. Thank goodness we had the small balcony so we could take turns getting to our belongings and then wait out there for the rest of the family to get ready!

Ship tip

Don't sail on board this ship to anywhere that isn't warm. If you've never been on a cruise before, you will probably think it's very nice, but it doesn't compare to other, better options.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
We stayed for 3 days before sailing to visit the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass and Olympic National Park. Didn't have an excursion, we rented a car and went on our own.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did the Best of Juneau excursion booked through the Shore Excursions Group, and it was fabulous! Whale watching, Glacier and Salmon Bake. Highly recommend this trip!

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We went on a Shore Excursion Group "Yukon Klondike Adventure by bus with Puppy Camp." Our tour guide was a fabulous storyteller named Jamesand we saw so many beautiful views, lakes, and waterfalls. The included BBQ lunch was good and we did see puppies but barely got to pet them. It was very limited interaction with the puppies.

Cruise Glacier Bay

4 out of 5
This was a ship viewing only.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
We went on a Princess excursion to Totem Bight State Park and then on to the Lumberjack show. It was an OK time. Both were very touristy type places.

Victoria, British Columbia

3 out of 5
We were there for such a short time and it was quite a long walk to get downtown just to spend more money on tourist shops. Maybe we should have booked an excursion, but alas, we didn't.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and simple. We chose to carry our own luggage off ship.

Lots to research before you go…..doesn’t sound like the right cabin for your needs. Glad you enjoyed your ports.

It would really help if people would let us know what other cruise lines they are comparing to. If your profile says you have never cruised before then what are the other lines that were better and when was it better?
