Review summary

It was very evident this was the first cruise for most of the staff because it showed in their disorganization and learning on the job although they were friendly and tried hard. The itinerary was excellent and the ship was small enough that we felt comfortable navigating it and finding things easily. Menu/food was not as enjoyable as I've had in the past and a number of the events listed in the program were not available because of short staffed.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Process of turning in our luggage and getting on board was well organized and they moved everyone along efficiently.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
I learned this was the first cruise for most of the crew and it showed in some disorganization in the main dining room with service taking a long time and waiters not familiar with things. Did not find the menus appealing in main dining room. The staff in the buffet did not keep the food platters full and I often had to ask for silverware because there was none available. There was especially a lack of food when I came to eat the last 45 minutes of the service.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Highly enjoyed the Solarium pool and hot tubs because it was quiet without kids yelling.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The musical song/dance program was much lower quality than the programs I've seen on other ships. The actual singing and dancing were fine, but the entire concept, concepts, etc. made no sense and took away from the enjoyment. The featured talent were good.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room steward was excellent.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Easy to find locations without having to go up and down decks all the time. Clean and well-maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Size was good, but the air conditioning/fan seemed to turn off at night and it got very hot. Notified the room steward who talked to maintenance but nothing could be done. I heard other cruisers had the same issue. On the last night the toilet stopped flushing.

Ship tip

Solarium is great for quiet relaxation

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

3 out of 5
Did not see this port, just got off the train here from Rome to get on the ship

Salerno (Naples), Italy

5 out of 5
Loved our excursion of taking a boat ride down the coast and stopping in Amalfi which was beautiful.

Siracusa, Sicily

4 out of 5
This port was changed shortly before cruising for some unknown reason which meant our original excursion was cancelled and we had to choose a new one. The excursion into Catatonia was good, but it was a longer drive because we didn't dock there as originally scheduled.

Santorini, Greece

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the excursion of having a guide to show us around and then we had a lot of time to spend on our own.

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

4 out of 5
Enjoyed having a lot of restaurants and shops right at the port. The excursion gave a lot of good historical info and overview but I was not happy with being pushed to buy expensive turkish rugs because the excursion included visiting a rug business which was unnecessary.

Mykonos, Greece

4 out of 5
Excursion was good as we saw an overview of the island and got history. It was inconvenient to be returned to the port and if we wanted to go back into town, we had to pay to take a water taxi back and forth and that info was not provided ahead of time so we could make sure we had enough currency.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

4 out of 5
No excursion, we got off ship and had hotel transportation take us to the hotel.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We self-disembarked and the process was quick and efficient.
