Experience of a Lifetime by joyfantastic

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This cruise was wonderful! We've wanted to visit Alaska for years and finally did it. Worth every penny. The stops thoughout the cruise made it memorable. The shore excursions are what really make it worthwhile.

Service on the Radiance was very efficient. Our needs were met with very little wait, like when we needed blankets in order not to freeze while watching the poolside movie.  There were a couple of moments when I was left scratching my head. For example, I asked for ham with my pancakes in the Cascades dining room. The server appeared perplexed by my order. He returned with finely diced ham (like you might put in a salad) and asked if it was okay. What I found most confusing about this is that upstairs at the Windjammer buffet they were serving sliced ham. I had the same experience when I asked for the low fat raspberry vinaigrette served upstairs. My waiter seemed perplexed. To her credit, she did bring it with my salad. Aside from those small moments, everyone did a great job to make this a wonderful experience. We greatly enjoyed ourselves!

Trip of a lifetime by docasey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We highly recommend this trip to Alaska.  They don't tell you that the weather will likely be rainy - try to do the trip in June as that is the best weather.  But even when it rains - the trip was amazing.  Spend the money on the excursions - you will not be sorry - you see so much deeper into Alaska.  The land trip is also a must see.  Alyeska, Talkeetna, Denali and the Wilderness express are not to be missed.

Great vacation! by merrisue64

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We had a great vacation on Radiance of the Seas. We had a balcony room, and slept with the door open all night! The staff was great. We ate in the regular dining room each night, and the food was wonderful. The kids enjoyed the rock climbing wall, and the mini golf. The shows were great. We wanted to see a movie, but the theater was too small, and needs to be updated. Could not really enjoy a film in there, the sound was bad, the seats were broken. Not enough room for everybody. It was clear that the priority was put on places where guests would spend money! We went to the Captains talk and enjoyed that. The highlight was the trip to Hubbard Glacier! We had a perfect day for it. This was my 3rd cruise, and only the 1st with Royal. I would go with them again, but wish they didn't spend so much time trying to sell you stuff. That is the reason I took off one star... really, you could not walk around anywhere on the ship without somebody wanting to get more money out of you! I did not feel this way on the other cruise lines, so I would be more likely to go back to one of them.  Alaska was awesome!

Radiance of the Seas needs to be retired by ak4m

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship needs a major maintenance overhaul. Staterooms smell of mold and mildew. The bathrooms in both the staterooms and public areas smell of sewage. The design of the ship was good, but needs updating and renovation. Beds were broken down. The food in the Windjammer and main Dining room was fair at best and even though the dinner at the Chefs Table was good, it definitely was not worth $70.00. Sad to say, even though meals are "included" you shouldn't have to pay additional to have a good dinner. The crew and service was good. The entertainment was average. Perhaps since Alaska is a popular destination, they don't feel they need to excel at anything else. If this was my only Royal Caribbean cruise, I would not select them again. However, I know that they can and have done better.

A visit to God's country by kennethwstone

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

A trip I took my whole family on and they are still talking about it. They had never seen mountains, trees, bears, fish, and flowers like they saw on some of the tours. There were a lot of great tours but the one they liked the most was a helicopter ride through/around the mountains, then landing on the Mendenhall Glacier, and walking around the glacier with a guide.

The Radiance of the Sea was a great ship, the crew were very helpful and friendly. The movies were mostly old but there were a lot of other things to do on the ship.

Alaska: Beautiful; Royal Caribbean: Boring by sfmoody

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Although I have been on multiple cruise with various cruise lines, this was my first with Royal Caribbean. Since this was the beginning of the Alaska cruise season, I had expected staff to be very friendly and welcoming. Instead most seemed like they were just "phoning it it" offering almost a forced friendliness. At no time did I feel that RC valued my patronage. Food was unmemorable; activities uninspiring; excursions expensive; entertainment mediocre. Would I cruise with them again? Maybe, but they would definitely not be my first choice. The beauty of Alaska is definitely worth visiting. I recommend taking along a few friends, though, so you won't be too bored when on board ship.

Great itinerary! by jensoup

Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We really enjoyed the Alaska Southbound on Radiance of the Seas. Overall the ports were spectacular along with the views we saw from the ship on sea days. The ship's common areas were well appointed but the guest rooms could use some updating.

If we ever wanted to repeat a cruise experience, this one is it! The majesty of the mountains, the beauty of the seas, the fascination of the glaciers and the enjoyment of meeting new friends was all enhanced by a great ship crew.

Alaska Cruise by crittercraig

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Royal Caribbean is getting worse and worse as the years go by. The food and entertainment is nothing like it use to be. The only thing still good is the dining room waiters, assistants and cabin workers.  All the ports of call are commercialized to the max. It is not the Alaskan wild and locals it is like a carnival atmosphere.

Alaska Cruise and Post Tour by rthoyle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

What a wonderful experience!  Everyone was so nice and helpful.  The excursions were superior and well-planned.  The food, as I expected, was delicious.  My server and his assistant, Edgardo and Rohan, were the best.  They were professional, but also kind, considerate, and friendly.  My room was well-serviced by Rodica.  The ship is kept spotless.  I could not have been more pleased with my total experience.  I am sure that I will sail with Royal Caribbean again.  Look forward to returning!

Not favorite cruise ship by kdove

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The majority of the trip was wonderful and the weather was awesome, was told the best week possible weather wise. The amenities on the ship were not appealing. Not much entertainment on a smaller ship, movie theater too small, very minimal shopping on board. Toilet in bathroom didn't flush half the time, very irritating. Could hear people in next room all night.  Most disappointing was the stop at Hubbard Glacier - we stopped far away from glacier and didn't stay there long at all.  Total joke.  I did this same cruise in reverse on Celebrity and that ship took you right up to it - a wonderful experience - you got close enough to take great pictures, you heard the ice falling into the water and seen the beautiful new blue ice once it fell.  I love Royal Caribbean but will have to stick with the larger ships, not going to sail on the smaller ships anymore. The people on the ship were very nice, especially in the dinning room, which is why I gave this 3 stars instead of 2.

There are not enough adjectives to describe this trip. by louandmeg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The cruse was great.  Service was excellent .  BUT the land tour was out of this world.  Premier Alaska tours did an outstanding job. Our tour director, Shaina gave us insights to living in Alaska that we never considered.  She was Outstanding in every way.  We will do this again, north or southbound does not matter.

Excellent service but missing some elements in activities by joymartin06

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Hawaii

We enjoyed the Cascade Dining Room both morning and evening.  The food was good and the servers were attentive to our needs.  The biggest thing we missed on this cruise was access to a DVD player in our room.  Since any TV was limited on the ocean, we would like to have watched videos during the 5 sea days.  We tried to see a film but it was packed out, and we were told people were getting in line an hour in advance.  The Cinema was too small.  The shows were good, especially the singers and dancers--fabulous.  We wished for more beautiful classical music in some of the venues.  The service people wee great!  Room was comfortable.    Jimmy was our waiter and he did a super job in the Cascades first seating.

Hawaii Transpacfic cruise by gowellstaywell

We have cruised with many different cruise lines. Royal Caribbean met our expectations. The services and the staff exceeded our expectation. Enjoyed this leisurely cruise back to Canada. Would like to see a little more variety in the Windjammer. Enjoyed the speciality restaurants.

Australia NZ cruise by McPam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

The ports were wonderful...my complaints are:  windows should be cleaned prior to beginning of cruise, internet wifi should be included, specialty restaurants are average-main dining room just as good.  Wish i could have spent more time in NZ...add Auckland as a port...Australian ports were great.  It was chilly in NZ...would be warmer in January.  Loved this vacation...the people and ports were great.

Great time by sye812

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We had a very good experience.  This was our first 7 day cruise and the no worry, no planning of the day or evening (once we were there) was wonderful!  Food was exceptionally good, entertainment good, staff super.  Our deck manager was always upbeat and funny.  Our room was always kept in perfect shape,I thought the boarding and disembarking procedures went very smoothly. HOWEVER,  what may be a deal breaker for us taking Royal C again... you need to either have access to coffee in each cabin or at the very least every floor! It was a big inconvenience each morning to go to floor 11! Sharon
