Radiance of the Seas

6 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: March 11, 2007

Ship: Radiance of the Seas

Cabin type: Oceanview

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 17 years ago

Review summary

The ship is relatively new and in good shape. The crew members were all very friendly and accommodating. The dining room service was excellent, but the food was merely good. The food court had a wide selection of items for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but was closed after 9:00 pm generally. There were two midnight buffets during the cruise--one was poolside and one was in the main dining room. The gym was large and well equipped with cycling, jogging, stair machines, etc. Entertainment was very good in the Aurora theater, but the schedule varied almost every night. On the first night of the cruise there was only one performance at 7:30 pm, and those in the first dinner seating were not done with dinner in time to attend. The Captain was a real character.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food quality was average. Availability of the food court was limited. The food court was the only place to get a cup of coffee or iced tea unless you wanted a specialty coffee from Seattle's Best at extra charge.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Excellent shows, but you really had to watch the schedule as it changed almost every day

Service and Staff

Ship Quality

Similar in layout to other large ships on other lines.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Comfortable and well laid out

Ports of call

Montego Bay, Jamaica

5 out of 5
We took an excursion to Dunn's River Falls and Ochos Rios.
Don't Miss: Dunns River Falls

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We didn't actually go into Cozumel as we took an excursion to Tulum (ancient Mayan ruins).
Don't Miss: Tulum is fascinating

George Town, Grand Cayman

1 out of 5
There were 8 cruise ships with over 20,000 people visiting on one day. There are no piers, so all of them were tendered in, which resulted in massive lines at the dock to get back on ship. The local organizers of the excursions were very disorganized.
Don't Miss: Swimming with the sting rays

Key West, Florida

3 out of 5
Interesting to see.

Pros: Friendliness of the crew

Cons: Food court was not open continuously
