Beautiful lady QM2 by mimzee321

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

I always enjoy the luxury of a cruise.  I have been on many different ships, but nobody comes close to the QM2.  The service is impeccable, The food is delicious, people are warm, friendly, and very helpful. Great shows,  Not happy about the casino machines.  Since the renovation took place there are less machines, no crap table, hard to find space to gamble.  Machines don't pay well.

Everything else is wonderful.

Love

White Star Service Missing by joggermarilyn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Favorite part of the cruise- Ting, the room steward was perfect in every way as was the service of Darka and Edwin the waiters at dinner. The comedian.

Then the shock of the long delay in getting checked in, a person fainted while standing in line of 1-2 hrs and delayed boarding after that. Told Verandah all booked and that I did not have complementary dinner (I did). Told uncorking fee of $25 for taking my Cunard gift bottle in my room to dinner. (not true).

Long delay in getting our dinner entrees the first night with not explanation why.

Left dining room at 8:30pm when 8pm people all waiting in long line (no explanation), Disorganization with excursions-getting checked in for our sticker numbers and then going in complete circle with no clear direction how to get off the ship for the excursion in Boston.

Lacking service in Kings Court. Waiting for table cleanup. No one offering assistance. Coffee machines not ready when went for breakfast before disembarking. Lack of communication when informed to go to Queens Room for self-embarking. No one let us know when we could leave. We finally left the room on our own to find the lobby was already crowded with people waiting to get off when we should have been first. Again a delay.

Where is the service, knowledge, and communication?

Food selections from my other cunard cruises have been much better.

Wonderful July 4th cruise on QM2 by Glassie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Our favorite parts were the elegance of the ship and the level of personal service. A good number of activities for a short cruise.

Least favorite:  Unacceptably long lines to board the ship,

A bit disaappointing by ctaa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We took this same cruise last year and loved every minute and every thing about the cruise/ship.  We could hardly wait to get back aboard.  We were especially excited to see the new make over improvements.

The airport pick up was excellent.  A private car picked us up and dropped us at the front door of the terminal.  Our  luggage was immediately whisked away. That's when the disappointment began.  We lined up with many, many other passengers for security clearance.  Once past that we stumbled into one of 2 lines - no direction.  For the next 2 hours we waited to be checked in.  There was 1 Cunard agent at the front of the line but no effort was made to explain to any of us what the wait was for or to even confirm that we were in the correct line. Eventually a steward brought out 2 trays with cups of water.  That was not enough to serve even 1 bend in the line.  Considering the age of many of the passengers, it was probably dangerous for them to stand in hot, humid conditions for so long.  Later on the cruise we got 2 different explanations for the extraordinary long and frustrating wait.

The second big disappointment was the food.  Last cruise, every meal was delicious.  Very high quality in appearance, flavor, texture.  This cruise it was obvious that lesser grades of beef were served and the choices of dishes seemed much less varied.  The food offered in the King's Court was also subpar.  For example cream soups were white but not creamy in texture.  Instead of looking forward to meals, we just settled.

When we boarded there was a strong cigarette smoke smell on our landing which persisted throughout the cruise.  Air filters were set up in our passage way which helped but did not eliminate the odor.

The passage ways always had vacuums or linen carts in them.  The halls are narrow so passenger would nicely back off from each other in order to pass.  It seems like there could be a better way on such a beautiful ship.

We took advantage of the complimentary laundry facility.  It was free and very easy to use.  Nicely kept.

The Queen MaryII still is a very beautiful, elegant ship.  The King's Court always had bountiful seating so there was no hustle or bustle to find a table.  The crew was also most attentive.

One of the very best things about the ship was the lack of motion.  We had calm seas but still there was almost no motion at all.  I have never been on such a smooth sail.  In our cabin, I could feel no vibrations or movement at all.

I am happy we went on the cruise.  This cruise had a different captain than our first voyage.  I don't know if that made a difference but I am not as eager to return the QMII has I had been after our first cruise.  She is still the most beautiful ship we have sailed.

Beautiful Ship by whartonbecky

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Loved the ship - Very classy.  Loved the wide decks and lots of relaxing reclining chairs, it never felt crowded.

String quartet and piano music appeals to the older crowd, which was relaxing and nice.  Real flowers and changing of the lobby arrangements were nice and beautiful.  The staff was kind and always pleasant to work with.

QM2 2016 by AnitaLeBlanc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

Overall, the cruise was absolutely wonderful!  All staff were deferential, polite and friendly.  The ship herself was splendid.  The daily programmes were excellent, providing a wide array of tastes and interests to apply to anyone.  The quality of the lecturers and their lectures was exemplary.

The embarkation and disembarkation were cumbersome and far too long.

The food in the dining room was average, and not always hot enough.  High tea, however, in the Queen;s Room was everything it should have been.

Sailing  on the  Queen Mary  2 across  the  Atlantic Ocean  is the  most  relaxing way to begin  or end your holiday in Europe.  The ship  is beautiful.  The  staterooms  are well  appointed and the  food is wonderful. There is  plenty  to do  during  your  crossing.  Most  of  all  the  staff  is marvelous,  they  cannot  do  enough  for  you.

The greatest thing for us was the formal dining for breakfast and dinners. We really enjoyed the musical entertainment and the lectures. It is a great way to cross the Atlantic in comfort and arrive in New York without jet lag.

Elegant Cruise on a Beautiful Ship by DaveQ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: World Cruise

Overall excellent cruise. Great ports of call. Great service, Great food. Interesting entertainment, lectures, and activities. Formal and quiet. Some long periods at sea (8 days at one time). Ship never felt crowded except for a couple of times when there were long wait times prior to excursions and tenders (seemed to be resolved so they did not repeat). Ship was beautiful, though ready for its May 2016 refurbishment. Quite formal and sedate - not a party boat and very few children or young adults. Only about 125 of 2,500 passengers were going all the way around the world. So,our dinner partners changed with every segment or two. Met extremely nice people who became friends.

better than expected by eileenzingaro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

My husband and I were shocked at the spaciousness of the ship, the excellence of the food and the courtesy of the staff. The captain was in communication on a daily basis and the lecture series by reporters fro the New York Times was exceptional.  The liner was tastefully appointed and the stateroom was clean and comfortable.

provided all that was promised in the advertising including cabin upgrade, prepaid gratuities and on board credits.  It would have been good to show this on the final boarding papers and on line as it was so long since we had booked the reservation that it would have helped having this ahead of time.

A vacation to remmeber by mimzee321

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Caribbean

A big plus is I live in Brooklyn 20 minutes away from dock, so it's a easy get to.

Very smooth embarkation, friendly service, and as a return traveler they expedite boarding.

QM2 is the most elegant ship, I have been on many wonderful cruises but the ambiance, and royalty can't be beat. There is a lot of formal evening, and even when it's not men have to wear jacket, and tie.  It doesn't bother me I love dress up, but if your looking for casual forget it.  My husband was thrown out of the casino in the evening because he was wearing shorts.  He wasn't happy. It's easier for women because as long as your wearing nice slacks and top or dress your fine.

Food is delicious, excellent shows, service is top notch.  The ship is always being maintained and cleaned throughout the day.

Love the ports, St. Thomas, Martin, Kitts, Lucia and Tortola are all wonderful islands.  Love the beaches and shopping.  I bypass tours they are the same thing, so it's off to the beautiful beaches I go to.

Entertainment was wonderful the music, dancers and wonderful "Opera Boys" were fabulous.

It's just a wonderful ship, and trip.  I will definitely return some time soon.

There's just something special about this boat... by emile

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

Do whatever you can to go Princess or Queens Grill.  It is worth the price of admission.

A superb experience on a truly magnificent liner.  Even though she is showing a bit of her age, the crew is polished, the food fantastic, the liquor well-stocked, and the mood lively... even when traversing through a hurricane in the North Atlantic.  In December.

Kudos, Cunard - I can't wait to revisit (and no, I'm not some old person), especially after the refit.

Wonderful crossing on QM2 despite sailing throgh two force 11 hurricanes by lsbodine

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

Crossed westbound in mid-December.  Selected a balcony stateroom on Deck 8 near midship.  Stateroom was larger than expected and well-appointed.  Storage was generous.  QM2 is due to be refitted.  Hope they replace the shower as fixtures, stall, and cloth shower curtains are due for a change.  Steward provided good service.  All of the dining rooms were excellent with great food and service.  Afternoon tea was delightful.  The daily program was excellent with lectures, concerts, and shows.  The library is the most remarkable space on the ship with thousands of selections across many subjects housed in barrister cases.  Simply amazing.  The staff is highly professional and they managed our sailing through the two storms with 10m swells keeping the ship fairly steady and the passengers comfortable and confident.  Disembarkation was painless.  Would gladly make another crossing in the future.  Cunard is just ightly a cut above Celebrity and is managed like a ship as opposed tk a oating hotel.  Delightful.

My third crossing aboard the QM2 and everything was just great.

The food, atmosphere, dancing, casino, shows/entertainment were all top shelf with exceptional service to boot!

I look forward to my next crossing on the QM2 and especially look forward to the planned upgrades to this phenomenal (and world's only true) ocean liner!

THE MAGICAL QM2 by wodgies11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

We are avid cruisers, but this was our first Cunard experience.   It was a "bucket list" item to do the transatlantic crossing on the QM2 and it did not disappoint us in any way.   What a wonderful ship - luxurious, elegant, and STRONG which was comforting given the gale force winds and high seas we experienced.  But as sailors, we loved the rough weather and the sense of the sea it brought to us.

As to service, the word impeccable does not begin to describe our experience.  From our stateroom steward (Albino) to every member of the crew, the white glove concept was lovingly carried out.   And we do mean lovingly, since there was an atmosphere of dedication and good cheer throughout.

A very special mention for Robert Howie, the hotel manager.  What a delight to meet him!   He is the epitome of dedicated professionalism, charm and good humour.   Cunard should count themselves very lucky to have him.   We hope our paths will cross again, and that is very likely since we are already looking at our next voyage on the QM2!

And just for fun, and to re-live our QM2 experience, we are going on Monday 23 November to stay overnight on the original Queen Mary, now in Long Beach, California.  We will dine at the excellent onboard restaurant, Sir Winston's, and raise a glass to her magical successor, the QM2!

Thank you, Cunard, for keeping the magnificent tradition of ocean liners going in such a perfect fashion.

Yours aye

Pam Johnson and Ray Cole

A Late October Atlantic Crossing by ntcox

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

On day three out of Southampton, southwest of Ireland, I saw a whale spout about 100 yards from QM2 but the mammal otherwise stayed out of sight. On day four there was the most horrific Atlantic storm all night. The Captain said the highest recorded wind was 110 mph. Neither my wife nor I were ill and we attribute lack of sickness to the absence of a roll, something to do with two inches of steel in the bow, and great stabilizers. But the ups and downs of the ship were huge! The Captain said his vessel was 'good for it'. It's almost luck to see fish life; however, on the westbound crossing in May, the ship steered slightly further south than usual, because of pack ice and my wife and I saw thousands of dolphins over a couple of hours - thought they were going to jump through the picture windows of Sir Samuels coffee lounge on deck three. To get back to last week's crossing. Everything was ship shape, from our cabin steward who kept marvelously out of sight but knew what we needed, to the Purser's staff who found me a pair of black shoes when I realized my formals were left behind in the London hotel. We ate in Brittania Club. The pleasant thing about that niche restaurant, is, you can stop by for dinner anytime between 6:30 and 9:30 in the evening, for the superlative dining experience.
