The food was generally good. And the crew was wonderful. However our cabin left a lot to be desired, and the gym was also a disappointment with zero recumbent exercise cycles. Mostly treadmills. Also no black soled shoes in case you are planning ahead. Hot tubs were tepid, and the crossing was rough.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very smooth and easy probably the best part of the whole trip
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Did not eat in the dining room. The buffet was generally good. Lots of choices and lots of fruit. However I thought most of the desserts were sub par. Custards were generally grainy and not very tasty as if they were made from a mix.
Best food was in the Solarium bistro. Eat there every night that you can. Sushi restaurant was expensive, had a very limited menu and was not very good.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Considering the many sea days. It could have been better to have more organized card games and a dedicated space, like bridge. RCC apparently doesn’t do this any more.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
I thought the staff was better than on Holland America. Our cabin steward was particularly wonderful.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The cabin we had was a poor one. Right next to a mechanical room that maintained the spa, and it was quite noisy with a squeaky pump we could hear through the walls. Generally very clean and well taken care of though
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
Never get this cabin. There is liquid soap in these interior cabins but no conditioner. The beds are extremely hard even in the balcony cabins are reported by other passengers. No robes, but the steward got me one. As I mentioned previously there was a lot of pump noise from the mechanical room forward and right on the other side of our wall. There was only one usable chair. The bench seat for the desk was not comfortable. No back support. I felt like RCC was essentially punishing us for not paying for an upgrade.
It was clean, as I mentioned before the steward was great.
Ship tip
Eat at the Solarium bistro. Was generally very very good.
We stayed in Tokyo for a total of ten days after the cruise. Lots to do and the weather was good, although prices are up sharply from last year on just about everything.
