Review summary

We had done a week in Northern Europe just the year before, but had been suffering from horrible jetlag and were not able to fully enjoy the itinerary.  We elected to do the 2 week itinerary as it allowed us to visit some similar ports and add new ones with the additional week.  While we enjoyed the intimacy of the Prinsendam, I have to say that I believe we would have enjoyed one of the larger ships more.  Having said that it was certainly delightful to connect with so many of our fellow cruisers who were on the ship, as the Prinsendam is definitely a smaller ship.  One of the reasons I enjoy the HAL cruise ships is the mid ship pool always has a cover that permits pool usage even in bad weather.  That is not the case on  the Prinsendam, the midship pool is open to the elements and in Northern Europe weather can be a little cooler.  The dining room as always was great and we commented to our travel agent that we had one of the most wonderful table mates we had ever encountered on a cruise.  The stateroom was a good size, we were happy with the space and the walk in closet contributed to making the cabin seem uncluttered.  The staff as always were a delight and friendly.  The 3 shows we attended were absolutely entertaining, including an afternoon interview with the captain who was terrifically funny. I always make use of the gym and spa and although they are smaller on this  ship I was never not able to access the facilities.

Ship tip

This is HAL's most popular ship, due to it's smaller more intimate spaces. A lot of the people on the ship have cruised on the Prinsendam in the past. The ship is a little tired looking but the spaces are still enjoyable.

This was a difficult port to reach. No trains go here you will have to arrange transport and it will be approximately 80 Euro

If you are planning on going to the North Cape be prepared for large crowds. I think everyone on the ship did that excursion.
