Stunningly Beautiful by lmatelan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

This cruise was definitely worth it for the itinerary.  Each island offered lovelier vistas than the previous one, unbelievable as they seemed to be, culminating with a sunset sail along the Na Pali Coast on Kauai. As for the ship, it was fine, though it showed some signs of heavy usage. The food in the restaurants, even the complimentary ones, was uniformly excellent. The buffet, however, was pretty ordinary, suffered from over-usage and insufficient replenishment, and was shut down or partially shut down at inconvenient times. The crew seemed willing, but were definitely not trained servers. The shore excursions are a must, to see the Volcanoes Park and the Waimea Canyon.  I would have rated the cruise higher if not for one problem.  There was a slight but noticeable sulphurous odor in our stateroom, which became extremely obvious and uncomfortable on the last night, to the extent that we had to open the balcony door for several hours to get fresh air.  My throat was burning.

Circle Hawaii Cruising NCL by mekendall

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

NCL is a good cruise for the money.  We enjoyed all the specialty dining rooms.  Wish the night time was a little more "dressed up for dinner".  I enjoy dressing for dinner and in the specialty dining rooms, you were asked to do so, but today most people just don't seem to care how they look.  There was one night that was supposed to be somewhat dressed for dinner but most did not. Maybe you really like casual. This was my first NCL cruise and it was ok, but if you're willing to spend more, I like more formal cruises, but if you like to go less expensive, you should love it.Happy

Love the views from the ship & a balcony room, and the highlight for me was seeing the whales.

No problem getting a taxi for the airport to the ship. Take your passport for sure even though they say it is not necessary, they ask for it every time you come back to the ship, even if you have the ship card.

Hawaii Cruise March 2015 by CalifCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The Pride of America is over ten years old but is well maintained.  We had a balcony stateroom and the room and balcony is one of the smallest staterooms we've experienced in our many cruises with other cruise lines.  We had the ultimate dining package  and booked restaurants in the program for five nights.  The food quality in Cagney's Steakhouse, El Moderno and Jefferson's was very good.  We did not like the East Meets West Restaurant or the Teppanyaki as  the food was very salty. We at most breakfasts at  the Skyline and the food was good.  Dinner at the Skyline was average.  The one thing we experienced in all the restaurants and buffet was the food was warm, not hot.  Pride of America must improve in this area!  We booked two tours with the ship and they were well organized.  We did research and explored most days on our own.  The cruise was a good way to see the islands and save time flying to each island.

We loved our cruise in... by ALFrancis

Sail date: /
Ship: Pride of America

We loved our cruise in Hawaii it was our first so we had nothing to compare it to. we stayed a couple nights before and after on Waikiki beach and were glad we did. We like to ride motorcycles so rented Harley's at the dealer on Maui and on Kauai. Loved loved loved our time on the bike. I downloaded an app that worked with GPS and provided a narrative along the road to Hana we highly recommend doing that. Kauai dealer recommended roads there. Beautiful! Did the volcano tour on the big island and captain zodiac. Both were great I'd recommend bringing an extra water camera on the captain zodiac trip we saw so many fantastic things I was out of film in no time. We had the specialty dining package and enjoyed that especially the steak house. Loved having a balcony to sit on as we cruised by Kauai. Ending with an excursion to Pearl Harbor was great as they take care of all your tickets and the luggage. Great trip!

wow..can't believe Americans are treated like this by lillianpardo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Management treats employees with no respect. Employees are treated like slaves. Food for the crew is what is leftover from passengers. mattresses in the rooms for the crew are garbage. You work until midnight and are expected to work again at 6:30 am with a smile on your face. Wow....never again

Better than expected! by gramcm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Overall, we were very pleased with the ship I had read some negative reviews, and found none of the criticisms to be true. For the most part, the staff was friendly and helpful, the food was adequate, and the ship itself was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We never found the dining rooms to be super crowded, and were always able to eat when and where we wanted. The shows, bars, and lounges were also never filled to capacity, and we could also find a seat. This has not always been true on other cruises.

An OK cruise by der1948

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

We picked this cruise for the Itinerary and the 'no passport needed' aspect. The overall ship is show her age. Were given a ship board credit with little places to spend it. Non fee dining choices were ok. Liberty has a dress code but not otherwise upscale. Same service and same basic menu. Hot tubs were cold, lukewarm, warmer, and almost hot.

Wonderful vacation by philadams23

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

This was a special 40th anniversary trip for my wife and myself. The stateroom was very comfortable, and the upgrade to a balcony unit was well worth it. Enjoyed beautiful views both at sea and at port. The \"Oh, What a Night!\" show was easily the best of all the shows in the Hollywood Theater. The food and service in the restaurants were both excellent. We enjoyed the 60s band by the pool and enjoyed meeting people on the shore excursions. We chose another company for the shore excursions, but may go with Norwegian for future shore excursions.

Best way to see a lot of Hawaii by barb3b

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

I have cruised mostly on smaller ships and did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that most of the time having twice as many passengers was unnoticeable. My sister and I loved the itinerary, going to four islands without the long trip across the Pacific from the west coast or spending time at airports for inter-island flights. We are both over 65 and did not participate in most of the on-board activities as they seemed to appeal to a younger or more party-oriented crowd. The musical shows were excellent. My sister has never cruised before and said this was her best vacation ever.
