Review summary

Alaska is beautiful and unlike any other place. We had a great time with an excursion in every port. Every tour guide we had on our excursions were very pleasant and knowledgeable. The Free-Style Daily is a wonderful tool to see what's going on the next day with pertinent info for docking and all-aboard times. The app is the BEST for having it all at your fingertips. There is always something happening on the ship regardless if you are in port or at sea.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Fast and easy. We transferred from Sea-Tac to the port and back. No issues.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The overall food in the main dinning room and the buffets was very average. All the deserts were tasteless. It was very disappointing compared to other Norwegian cruises we have been on. Maria who worked the pasta station in the Garden Cafe was especially nice and always smiling and pleasant.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I used a promotion for the spa and booked a hot stone massage. No one told me the price when I booked it and I neglected to ask, ( my fault) but it was definitely sticker shock when I was told $275. The massage itself was great, but the high pressure to buy skin treatments at the end was not appreciated.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The production shows were not as good as other ones in the past.

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
We were never actually told who our room steward was as there was no communication left for us as in the past. We were not offered any type of service other than maid service. This was a totally different experience from the other Norwegian cruises we have been on. Also, we were heading to our life boat drill and an employee in the hall told a group of us that we didn't have to go. We were left a notice that night that we did indeed need to go and had to get up the next morning to "make-up" the drill. We did tell the safety officer as clearly there needs to be additional training done with all staff.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
the cleanliness was great. The ship layout was a little confusing on deck 11 if you are forward and want to go to the aft. Better signage near the spa and fitness center to point the way.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Exactly as advertised.

Ship tip

Take a bathing suit even though it's Alaska. For an alternative for a buffet, go to the Great Outdoors on deck 11 aft. behind the Garden Cafe.

Ports of call

KETCHIKAN (WARD COVE), ALASKA

Misty Fjords tour was great! This was the only time we saw whales on the trip.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

5 out of 5
great tour guide.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

3 out of 5
We really didn't see the glacial as the fog was too thick.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
the train, salmon bake and Red onion were the highlights of the trip.

Juneau, Alaska

4 out of 5
Part of our excursion was deleted as the Mt Robert's tram wasn't working. We did receive a partial refund.

Victoria, British Columbia

3 out of 5
We did the Butchart Gardens and Craigdarroch Castle tour. We were run from one place to the next. We had no time to see either one of these places even partially. This was VERRRRRY disappointing. This tour needs to be twice as long.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
No issues other than PA announcements need to be able to be heard in the rooms, not just the halls. We were second to last off and had to keep asking people in the hallway what color they had called.
