Review summary

I enjoyed the itinerary and we are fans of Norwegian, but wouldn't book on the Norwegian Sun again. It felt cramped, and the layout was difficult to navigate. Also not as wheelchair friendly as it could've been due to the high way the thresholds were made.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
No problems with embarkation at all

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The Garden Cafe (buffet) was too small and crowded. The buffet on most ships I've been on was in the center of a large seating area that stretched from port to starboard side. Norwegian Sun, however, dedicated half of the normal seating area to a specialty restaurant.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Most activities required an additional fee, or at the very least included a sales pitch.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment was excellent. On a different cruise line, though, there was a comedy club, which we really enjoyed. That was an great option for us when the main theater was presenting a show or music we weren't interested in. Also, the movie that was shown in the theater every afternoon were mostly kid movies, not for adults. Why, in September and October, when there were very few kids on the ship? I think children and adults alike would enjoy some of the older family movies like "Old Yeller", "The Absent Minded Professor" etc.

Children's Programs

There weren't any children traveling with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We never asked for assistance that we weren't treated with kindness and hospitality.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Narrow hallways in the common areas with thresholds that weren't wheelchair friendly. Also closed doors between the lounges didn't feel "welcoming". Also it was difficult to get to some places on the ship without taking a specific elevator.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Typical. Out cabin, though, was directly below the "all night comfort food" area on the 11th floor. We heard tables and chairs being scraped across the floor, which was our ceiling, throughout the night.

Ship tip

We wouldn't sail on that ship again. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

5 out of 5
Beautiful city. We took a pre-cruise tour that WAS'NT offered by the cruise line.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We went whale watching and it was a good excursion.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Charming place. We did the White Pass Railway and Yukon. The scenery was breathtaking.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We love Ketchikan. It's such a quaint and colorful place. Our shore excursion demonstrated crab fishing, and we were treated to a crab feast at George Inlet. It was excellent.

Victoria, British Columbia

2 out of 5
Beautiful city but we took the "Highlights" tour and there didn't seem to be many highlights. That tour was disappointing.

Astoria, Oregon

3 out of 5
The best part of our tour was our tour guide, Gloria. She was fascinated us with her extensive knowledge of the history of the area. We drove a really long time, though, for a mediocre lunch at the "Blue Herron". We didn't see a lot of the gorgeous coastline like we expected to.

San Francisco, California

1 out of 5
This was an excellent tour, but after the tour, there was no drop off point except at the airport. I don't understand why there's not one downtown drop off point for people who were staying in San Francisco. The airport is 12-13 miles from downtown, and we had to go there, then take an expensive cab ride back to our hotel downtown.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was easy
